Caretaker\n\nWe’re looking to recruit a Caretaker to join our team at Sutherland House School. In this role, you’ll be involved in the repair, servicing, and construction (where applicable) of fixtures, fittings and equipment, together with buildings and site maintenance and decoration.\n\nWe are seeking candidates who have good communication a skill and a friendly and focused approach. The successful candidate will have a background in caretaking or site officer/premises with experience in carrying out variety maintenance and repair work to a professional standard.\n\nImmediate Start\n\n1 year fixed-term contract with a view to 25 hours per week, timings to be confirmed depending on experience\n\nSalary - £17,593.98\n\nYour Experience:\n\nIt is preferred that you have previous experience working within an educational setting.\n\nPrevious experience of working as a cleaner/caretaker/site manager and an understanding of different cleaning methods and equipment.\n\nBasic awareness of health and safety standards as applied to cleaning and caretaking.\n\nProfessional Skills:\n\nLiteracy skills to complete forms and orders, write instructions and communicate effectively via email.\n\nWillingness to develop knowledge of use of ICT and other specialist equipment/resources.\n\nBe flexible to the changing demands of the post.\n\nAbility to respond to straightforward problems and unforeseen circumstances e.g. hazards and accidents.\n\nUnderstand when to escalate an issue to your line manager.\n\nAbility to operate cleaning equipment, machinery and tools and undertake basic maintenance tasks.\n\nTake pride in a job well done.\n\nAble work under your own initiative and as part of a team.\n\nA hardworking, resilient, flexible individual that is used to working in a fast-paced environment.\n\nPersonal Qualities:\n\nAbility to work unsupervised and independently understanding Sutherland House School roles and responsibilities and your own position within these.\n\nAbility to work effectively as a team player.\n\nGood time management skills.\n\nTo behave in a manner that is professional, friendly, fair with students and colleagues demonstrating and role modelling the high standards and behaviour expected at Sutherland House School.\n\nWillingness to work flexibly with regards to shift patterns and school holidays in order to meet the needs of the business.\n\nPossess or must be willing to train for the “First Aid at Work” or “Emergency First Aid at Work” qualification approved by the HSE as requested.\n\nCommitment to Equal Opportunities.\n\nMain Responsibilities:\n\nOperate and respond to alarm systems where appropriate.\n\nCarry out health and safety checks such as legionella temperature control, fire alarm tests, fire call point testing and similar.\n\nCarry out tasks assigned to you from the maintenance log and input any new tasks requested by staff onto the log.\n\nUndertake appropriate repairs e.g. redecorating, fixing.\n\nTo carry out various maintenance duties to ensure the general upkeep and maintenance of the premises is satisfactory.\n\nTo carry out decoration programmes per schedules drawn up.\n\nTo carry out minor improvement work e.g. erecting shelves, noticeboards, fitting locks, realigning doors, etc.\n\nOperation and maintenance of lighting systems.\n\nIdentify defects and record repair and maintenance requirements.\n\nCollect and assemble waste for collection.\n\nUndertake cleaning duties such as graffiti removal, litter picking.\n\nCoordinate deliveries to Sutherland House School.\n\nLiaise with contractors and inform admin of key dates.\n\nMonitor energy consumption taking meter readings as and when required.\n\nProvide emergency first aid as required.\n\nBenefits:\n\nA free and confidential employee assistance programme offering counselling and advice.\n\nComprehensive training and support.\n\nOpportunities to develop new skills and progress your career.\n\nFree flu vaccine.\n\n25 days holiday plus bank holidays (30 days)\n\nEmployer pension scheme.\n\nFully paid two-week induction training.\n\nThe position is subject to agreement to Terms and Conditions and suitable application and reference process.\n\nIf we have not contacted you within two weeks of your application being received then regretfully your application will not be taken forward on this occasion
