Senior Technical Business Development Manager (Technical Engineering Background) - ICP / Utilities - Durham - £90k + Bonus + Car Role: Senior Technical Business Development Manager Location: Durham (3x Days Per Week), UK (with national travel for client/site visits) Salary & Package: £90,000 base salary + Car + Bonus / Commission Overview This role is designed for an individual with a strong engineering foundation - such as a background in sales engineering, commissioning, project engineering, or project management - who is ready to transition into the commercial side of the business. It offers the opportunity to apply technical knowledge to drive business growth, influence large-scale projects, and play a pivotal role in developing new client relationships across industrial, infrastructure, renewable energy, and EV charging sectors. Key Responsibilities • Identify, develop, and secure new business opportunities across the UK, particularly in high-value schemes exceeding £1m., • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, partners, and key stakeholders., • Manage and nurture existing client accounts to ensure repeat business and long-term partnerships., • Represent the company at industry events, exhibitions, and networking forums., • Deliver compelling client pitches and presentations that combine technical insight with commercial value., • Maintain accurate sales forecasts, pipeline updates, and CRM records., • Monitor industry trends, competitor activity, and market positioning to shape sales strategy., • Work closely with internal engineering and delivery teams to align client requirements with technical capabilities. Skills & Qualifications • Degree in Civil, Electrical, or related Engineering discipline (or equivalent experience)., • Proven ability to translate technical knowledge into commercial advantage., • Strong sales and business development skills, ideally gained within engineering or construction-related industries., • Understanding of contractual frameworks, particularly building and infrastructure contracts., • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and influencing skills at all business levels., • Highly organised, able to prioritise effectively and meet deadlines under pressure., • Strong presentation and negotiation skills, both written and verbal., • Experience in relevant industry experience, ideally combining technical and client-facing roles.
