My Client is recruiting for a Senior Electrical Design Engineer in the Water Sector\n\nWe are seeking to strengthen our Engineering Design Team with the appointment of a Senior Electrical Design Engineer, based in Derby with hybrid working available.\n In this role, you will report to your Line Manager and the Regional Discipline Lead - (Electrical and ICA). You will be responsible for delivering high‑quality Electrical, Instrumentation, Control and Automation (EICA) design services that support the safe, efficient and compliant delivery of projects across the water and wastewater sectors.\n You will play a key role in mitigating technical, commercial and delivery risks, ensuring that design solutions are robust, buildable, cost‑effective and aligned with both client specifications and contractual requirements. You will lead and coordinate design activities, producing detailed design documentation and drawings in accordance with relevant health and safety legislation, CDM regulations, water‑industry standards, and internal engineering governance arrangements.\n Key responsibilities will include:\n\nProduce Outline and Detailed Electrical, Instrumentation, Control and Automation designs that meet client needs and enable safe, efficient construction and commissioning.\nProduce and check specifications, schedules, drawings and calculations to a high standard.\nEnsure designs are completed in accordance with CDM Regulations and industry best practice.\nPromote the use of standard designs and consistent design principles wherever possible.\nDeliver design outputs on time and within budget, keeping colleagues informed throughout.\nWork collaboratively with other disciplines to ensure coordinated, integrated design solutions.\nPrepare clear and helpful monthly project status reports.\nBuild strong working relationships with construction teams and supply chain partners to support buildability and programme efficiency.\nProvide accurate estimates and technical insight to support proposal development.\nEnsure that standard practices are utilised wherever possible.\nContribute positively to departmental processes and support continuous improvement activities.\nMaintain accurate design records and documentation throughout the project lifecycle.\nSupport a culture focused on customer satisfaction and constructive communication.\nMaintain your own professional development and support the growth of junior team members.\nPromote safe working practices and ensure all designs reflect health, safety and environmental considerations.\nWork in a way that minimises waste and supports environmental sustainability.\nAssist in supervising and developing staff.\nAssist in ensuring a safe working environment for all staff.\n Essential:\n\nRelevant engineering degree preferred, or HND with substantial design and build experience (substantial suitable design experience).\nMembership of a relevant professional institution chartered or working towards chartership.\nSignificant experience in Electrical and ICA design and delivery, ideally within the water or wastewater sectors.\nProven Ability to develop practical, buildable and efficient design solutions that meet client, project and industry standards.\nExperience producing and checking a full suite of design deliverables, including specifications, schedules, drawings, calculations and operating philosophies.\nEnsure designs are completed in accordance with CDM regulations, and are safe to construct, commission, operate and maintain.\nCompetence in rationalising designs and developing economical, well‑integrated plant layouts.\nExperience reviewing, coordinating and providing technical assurance on subcontractor designs.\nAbility to manage complex technical information, assess design risks, and communicate implications clearly.\nHave experience of managing members of staff, in designing relevant discipline aspects of a project, preferably within Water and Wastewater project delivery.\nStrong understanding of CDM regulations and the ability to ensure designs are safe to construct, commission, operate and maintain.\nDemonstrated commitment to producing designs that follow client specifications, industry guidance and internal governance requirements\nAbility to embed standard design practices and utilise common design solutions wherever appropriate.\nExperience working collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team.\nAbility to build strong working relationships with construction teams and supply chain partners to support buildability, quality and programme efficiency.\nProven ability to deliver coordinated design outputs across multiple engineering disciplines.\nAbility to rationalise designs and produce economic plant layouts.\nCommitment to ongoing professional development; working toward professional registration (IEng/CEng) is advantageous.\nClear, confident and convincing communication skills, with the ability to present technical proposals to a range of stakeholders.\nStrong IT skills, particularly in Microsoft Office, and confidence in using digital design environments; experience with CDE platforms is beneficial.\nFlexible, analytical mindset with the ability to process and interpret large volumes of technical information.\nBroader understanding of related engineering disciplines (mechanical, process, ICA, project management).\nFull UK driving licence and willingness to travel to project sites and office locations as required.Desirable:\n\nRelevant Engineering Master's degree.\nChartered Engineer (CEng) Status.\nUnderstand the principles of water and sewage treatment.\nUnderstanding of water and wastewater treatment principles.\nFive or more years' water‑industry experience.\nExperience working within a Common Data Environment (CDE) and digital document control
