Overview We are seeking a highly skilled Credit Risk Modelling Consultant to support small consumer banks, digital lenders, and fintech organizations in designing, enhancing, and validating risk models across the credit lifecycle. The ideal candidate brings hands-on technical expertise, deep regulatory understanding, and the ability to translate complex analytics into actionable business strategies for rapidly growing lending operations. Key Responsibilities 1. Credit Risk Model Development & Enhancement • Build, refine, and deploy credit risk models, including:, • Application scorecards, • Behavioral scorecards, • Probability of Default (PD), Loss Given Default (LGD), and Exposure at Default (EAD) models, • Early-warning and collections models, • Leverage statistical, econometric, and machine-learning techniques to improve model accuracy and stability., • Translate credit strategy needs into data-driven model features and methodologies. 2. Model Validation & Governance, • Conduct independent model validations, including conceptual soundness reviews, data quality assessments, benchmarking, and performance testing., • Develop and document validation findings, recommendations, and remediation plans in accordance with regulatory expectations (e.g., OCC, FDIC, FRB, CFPB)., • Support clients in building model risk management (MRM) frameworks suitable for small organizations. 3. Regulatory & Compliance Support, • Advise clients on compliance with relevant US banking regulations, model risk guidance (SR 11-7), fair lending, and consumer compliance requirements., • Support exam preparation, remediation of regulatory findings, and development of model documentation, policies, and procedures. 4. Data & Infrastructure Support, • Work with clients to assess and enhance data architecture, data quality, and model deployment pipelines., • Provide guidance on integrating alternative/fintech data (cash-flow underwriting, open banking, device data, etc.) into risk models. 5. Strategic Advisory, • Translate modelling insights into portfolio strategies, including acquisition, underwriting, pricing, line management, and collections., • Support development of credit policies for emerging or scaling lending products (unsecured installment loans, BNPL, credit cards, small-dollar credit, etc.)., • Advise early-stage fintechs on risk scaling challenges, including rapid growth, thin-file populations, and limited historical performance data. Required Qualifications, • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Data Science, Finance, or related field., • 3–7+ years of hands-on experience in credit risk modelling within consumer banking, lending, or fintech., • Proficiency in Python, R, SQL, SAS, or equivalent statistical tools., • Strong understanding of credit data, bureau attributes, scorecard development, and model monitoring., • Familiarity with US regulatory expectations for model risk management., • Experience communicating with stakeholders across risk, product, compliance, and executive teams., • Strong documentation and presentation skills. Preferred Qualifications, • Experience in small banks, community banks, or early-stage fintechs., • Experience with alternative data and machine-learning modelling techniques., • Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and model deployment workflows., • Experience developing credit strategy in addition to model development., • Prior consulting experience is a plus.
