Senior Estimator Willmott Dixon are currently recruiting for a Senior Estimator to join our North East region, based out of our Gateshead office on a hybrid basis. We deliver projects ranging in value from £10m to £90m across a range of sectors, including Education, Leisure, Transport, Blue Light, Commercial and Health. Key Responsibilities As a Senior Estimator, you will play a pivotal role in calculating the build cost for multiple projects, ensuring we deliver the right net cost on time, to the highest standard, and with commercial integrity. You’ll lead the estimating process through to contract signing, supporting procurement strategy development and ensuring our solutions align with customer requirements, project scope, and current legislation. You’ll also play a key mentoring role within the estimating team, sharing knowledge and helping others develop while collaborating with preconstruction, supply chain and design colleagues. Essential and Desirable Criteria Essential: • Good numeracy skills and strong written and spoken English., • HNC/HND/Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or Civil Engineering, • Minimum relevant level 4 qualification (HNC/NVQ4 etc). Desirable: • Working towards MCIOB / MRICS. The Role We are seeking a motivated and experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor or Quantity Surveyor to join the team on a permanent basis. You will play a key role in delivering high-quality projects across multiple sectors, supporting our goal of excellence, innovation and working in partnership with clients and stakeholders. Responsibilities • Prepare cost estimates, budgets, and cost plans at inception, ensuring alignment with client requirements., • Manage cost control across the project lifecycle – monitor expenditure, measure variations, and report on budget status., • Undertake procurement of subcontractors and materials, negotiate contracts, and ensure value for money., • Carry out risk assessments and advise on mitigation., • Collaborate with design, project management, and site teams to ensure cost-efficient and cost-effective design solutions (value engineering)., • Prepare interim and final valuations and ensure payments are managed and processed correctly., • Maintain thorough documentation and communication with all stakeholders (clients, contractors, consultants)., • Support and mentor junior QS staff; contribute to continuous improvement of processes. Requirements • Fully-qualified/chartered Quantity Surveyor or working towards chartership., • Significant experience (for senior role) managing surveyor duties across commercial, industrial, retail, leisure or healthcare projects., • Strong understanding of procurement, contract forms, and cost management practices., • Excellent negotiation, analytical, and financial reporting skills., • Proven ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications., • Proactive, solutions-driven, with strong attention to detail., • Good communication skills – able to liaise across teams, clients, and supply chain., • Comfortable working in a company committed to standards (health & safety, quality, environment).
