Lead Software Engineer Remote (UK) Up to £70 + Equity I'm working with an awesome early-stage startup who are creating wearable technology that empowers high-risk workplaces to operate smarter and safer. Their solutions are designed to make a tangible impact, helping teams work more effectively while reducing risk. With backing from multiple VCs, seed funding secured, and strong traction in the market, they're in a solid position to grow organically - no immediate fundraising dependencies! Their tight-knit team spans hardware, software, and AI, and we’re looking for a Lead Software Engineer who thrives in a fast-moving, hands-on environment, isn’t afraid to roll up their sleeves, and is excited to get involved across the business. The Role You’ll take ownership of their technology stack, shaping, building, and scaling the next generation of products. Working closely with the founders, you’ll make architectural decisions, contribute directly to the codebase, guide a small engineering team as they scale. You’ll also collaborate with manufacturing partners overseas, ensuring smooth integration between software and hardware. This role blends strategic leadership with hands-on engineering, perfect for someone who enjoys planning, coding, and problem-solving across multiple areas. Our Stack They're modern, pragmatic, and flexible, you don’t need experience in every tool. Strong engineering fundamentals, adaptability, and curiosity matter most. • React + Next.js: Web applications are the lion’s share of the work; deep expertise required, • React Native: Mobile apps for field use; experience is beneficial but not essential, • TypeScript & Node.js: Across backend, web, and mobile, • Postgres + Supabase: For database and real-time updates (any relational DB experience helps), • Prisma: For schema management (ORM experience transferable), • Railway & Vercel: Hosting, scaling, and orchestration (general cloud/CI/CD knowledge sufficient), • OpenAI integrations: Currently light but with plans to expand, • CI/CD, testing, observability: pipelines, automated testing, and monitoring What You’ll Do • Own and evolve the technical stack across backend, frontend, and mobile, • Lead a small engineering team and guide technical decisions, • Architect scalable systems for real-time device data, • Collaborate with founders on technical strategy, AI integrations, and product direction, • Coordinate with manufacturing partners on firmware, testing, and production, • Maintain high standards of coding, testing, and documentation, • Be versatile and willing to get involved across the business - this is a hands-on startup environment What You Bring • Strong coding ability in React, TypeScript, Node.js, • Proven experience leading projects or small teams, • Deep understanding of web application architecture, • Comfort working across backend, frontend, and hardware discussions, • Familiarity with React Native a plus, but not required, • Experience with SQL, relational databases, and ORMs (Supabase/Prisma experience helpful), • General cloud/CI/CD knowledge, • Curiosity and interest in AI integration, • A mix of strategic thinking, problem-solving, and hands-on delivery Why Join Them You’ll join a stable, VC-backed startup with real traction, building technology that makes a tangible difference.
