Job Title: Buyer Location: Cannock Term: Running until end of September 2026 IR35: INSIDE Hourly Rate: £DOE Key Skills: Buyer, Engineering, Hardware, Electronics, Electrical, Mechanical, ERP, Supplier, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Production, Pricing, Engineering We are working in partnership with a leading engineering manufacturer in the West Midlands to recruit an experienced Buyer on a contract basis through to the end of September. This is a fantastic opportunity to support the delivery of high-integrity, safety-critical programmes within a fast-paced, project-driven environment. The Role As Buyer, you will play a key role in supporting engineering and production teams by ensuring the timely procurement of materials, components, and services. Operating within a complex supply chain, you will help drive cost, quality, and delivery performance while maintaining compliance with defence and regulatory standards. Key Responsibilities as a Buyer: • Manage end-to-end procurement of components, materials, and services, • Raise and manage purchase orders in line with MRP/ERP demand signals, • Expedite orders to ensure on-time delivery to production and project schedules, • Work closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Programme teams to support delivery, • Source new suppliers and support supplier selection and onboarding, • Negotiate pricing, lead times, and terms to achieve best value, • Monitor supplier performance and resolve supply chain issues proactively, • Ensure compliance with internal processes and defence procurement standards, • Support cost reduction and continuous improvement initiatives Key Requirements as a Buyer: • Proven experience as a Buyer within engineering, manufacturing, or defence environments, • Strong understanding of technical procurement (e.g. machined parts, electronics, assemblies), • Experience working with ERP/MRP systems (e.g. SAP, Oracle, IFS or similar), • Strong stakeholder engagement skills across engineering and operations teams, • Experience in expediting and managing suppliers in a project-based environment, • Good commercial awareness and negotiation skills Desirable • Experience within defence, aerospace, or other regulated industries, • Knowledge of export controls / compliance (e.g. ITAR, EAR) Why Apply? • Opportunity to work on complex, high-profile defence programmes, • Collaborative environment working alongside engineering and project teams, • Immediate start with a defined contract scope through to September If you’re an experienced Buyer looking for your next contract in a dynamic engineering environment, apply now or get in touch for more information.
