Job Title: Child Protection Social Worker - East Duty Team (East Sussex County Council)Location: Cavendish House, St Leonards-on-SeaPay Rate: £37.52 per hour (Umbrella)Caseload: Approx. 18 childrenWorking Pattern: Hybrid - office-based minimum 3 days per week + full office attendance when on duty Overview East Sussex County Council is seeking an experienced Children's Social Worker to join the East Duty Team, a fast-paced frontline service covering child protection and statutory safeguarding work. This is an excellent opportunity for a practitioner confident in duty work, child protection investigations, and court-related practice within a high-performing local authority setting. You will be responsible for managing a varied caseload of children in need of protection and support, ensuring timely decision-making and robust safeguarding interventions. Key Responsibilities • Undertake Child Protection assessments (s17 & s47 Children Act 1989), • Manage a duty caseload of approximately 18 children, • Complete high-quality initial and core assessments within statutory timescales, • Undertake direct work with children, young people, and families, • Prepare court reports and statutory documentation to a high standard, • Work collaboratively with multi-agency partners to safeguard children at risk, • Minimum 3+ years post-qualified experience (PQE) in a UK Local Authority Children's Social Work setting, • SWE registration (Social Work England), • Full UK driving licence and access to transport, • Proven experience in child protection work, including s17 and s47 assessments, • Experience in direct work with children and families in complex safeguarding contexts, • Competitive pay rate of £37.52 per hour (Umbrella), • Opportunity to work within a structured and supportive Duty Team environment, • Hybrid working model with flexibility (minimum 3 days office-based), • Exposure to high-quality statutory child protection practice and court work, • DBS paid for, • Referral bonus scheme, • "Find your own job" bonus, • Twice-weekly payroll Eden Brown Synergy is an equal opportunities employer. You’ll likely have: A strong academic background (degree educated, ideally in Business, Hospitality, Economics or similar) Experience in a consultancy, advisory, or highly analytical commercial role Strong Excel skills and confidence working with complex datasets The ability to interpret data and translate it into clear, commercially sound recommendations Excellent written communication skills (proposal/report writing experience would be advantageous) A genuine interest in food, catering or hospitality — being a self-confessed “foodie” would absolutely fit Hospitality operational experience alone won’t be enough — we’re specifically looking for someone with consultancy DNA: structured thinking, commercial curiosity, and analytical rigour. Working Arrangement The role is office-based in Hastings initially. To fully understand the business, clients and methodology, you’ll be expected to be office-based for the first 3–6 months.
