Role Overview – Fairhurst is seeking an experienced Senior Structural Engineer to join our Newcastle Office. This role is ideal for a motivated and technically strong engineer with substantial consultancy experience who is looking to take the next step in their career. This position provides the opportunity to lead technically challenging projects, contribute to business growth, and mentor junior engineers within a collaborative and supportive environment. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Design & Technical Delivery • Manage and deliver UK‑based structural engineering projects in accordance with UK Building Regulations and all relevant design standards., • Lead and undertake structural engineering assessments and inspections of new and existing buildings in steel, concrete, masonry, and timber., • Carry out detailed analysis and design using industry‑standard software including Tekla Structural Designer and Tedds., • Prepare high‑quality drawings, calculations, reports, and technical documentation., • Produce well‑structured technical reports, including structural surveys and design justifications., • Coordinate and oversee multiple concurrent projects, ensuring deadlines, budgets, and quality standards are met., • Manage work packages, project resources, and deliverables to support successful project delivery., • Contribute to project programmes, risk management, and efficient workflow planning., • Liaise with and lead other members of the design team to deliver coordinated, integrated solutions that meet client objectives., • Engage professionally with clients, contractors, statutory bodies, and stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle., • Represent Fairhurst at external meetings, networking events, and industry functions as required., • Work in accordance with Fairhurst’s Quality Assurance procedures and industry legislation., • Uphold best practices, professional standards, and relevant Eurocodes and design codes., • Review work of junior staff to ensure accuracy, compliance, and high technical quality., • Provide technical guidance, supervision, and mentorship to Graduate and Project Engineers., • Support the development and progression of junior engineers through structured feedback and knowledge-sharing., • Promote a positive team culture that values collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning.
