Job Role: Senior / Principal Electrical Engineer \n Salary / Rate: £60,000-75,000 + competitive benefits package \n Location: Southampton, Brighton or West Malling \n Our client is a respected consultancy who are looking to grow their established Water team in the South of England with Electrical Engineers from Senior to Principal grade. The successful candidate will be delivering outline design and detailed specifications primarily for water and wastewater schemes for AMP8. \nAbout the Role:\n As an Electrical Engineer you’ll work closely with multi-disciplinary teams from across the wider Water Business to deliver projects by: \n\n • Undertaking outline and detailed designs and specifications for electrical, instrumentation and control works.\n, • Providing day to day technical input as part of a team of engineers and technicians.\n, • Ensuring design output is completed in accordance with the agreed scope of works, timescales and budgets.\n, • Working in close collaboration with colleagues from other disciplines as required to deliver project requirements and added value to the Client.\n\nAbout you:\n\n, • A degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent) and chartered or be working towards achieving chartered status with a relevant professional institution.\n, • Knowledge and experience of electrical, instrumentation and control design for the water industry.\n, • The ability to work with engineers from all disciplines and other industry professionals to optimise and develop bespoke and innovative designs.\n

Project Engineers The job: We are looking for project engineers to engineer and manage electricity distribution system projects at voltages from low voltage up to and including 132kV. The projects will range in size and complexity from small network extensions, through to major substation works, underground cable and overhead line projects ranging in costs from a few thousand to several million pounds. We are looking for people able to work on their own initiative to lead the engineering management of these projects from project conception through to completion, apply engineering judgement and knowing when to seek specialist input. Projects will be assigned at the conceptual stage and project engineers will be required to manage the engineering design phase through a design team, preparation of work packages/input to contract documents as applicable and managing projects to a fixed timeline and cost. The projects will range from large scale complex single site projects to multi location extensive work programmes over extended periods. The complexity of projects to be managed will depend on the individual’s experience and particular skill background, for example overhead line works, substation works or voltage level. The Person: Applicants should ideally be familiar with electricity distribution or transmission systems through previous experience or have a utility project management background. Applicants with transferrable skills from other suitable backgrounds, for example power generation, military engineering or mechanical engineering will be considered. Key attributes will be an awareness of all industry-based Health and Safety legislation and standards, a strong environmental awareness and a good working knowledge of the ESQCR Regulations 2002. Site visits and some supervision may be involved so a clean driving licence is essential. Qualifications: Applicants with a minimum of an HNC or equivalent qualification in electrical engineering will be at an advantage. For the more senior roles a minimum of an HNC will be advantageous, but in each case we will consider those who can demonstrate similar skills and knowledge through experience. IOSH and/or NEBOSH qualification or equivalent would be an advantage. Location: North of England / Yorkshire / North Lincolnshire; work will be from a nominated base location, though site visits, visits to other office locations will be required and some home-based working may be possible, depending upon current project and home locations. The role is responsible for engineering governance, technical assurance, safety in design, resource management, and stakeholder engagement across all projects. The Engineering Director will oversee engineering teams, ensure compliance with regulatory and legislative requirements, and support the company’s long-term technical and business objectives. Package: Salary - £100,000 - £120,000 Depending On Experience Standard Package Key Responsibilities • Ensure that appropriate and competent engineering resources are assigned to the delivery of large capital and complex design projects., • Identify, manage, and mitigate engineering, quality, and delivery risks to safeguard project quality, programme, and outcomes., • Provide technical leadership and governance, ensuring project designs comply with Engineering Works Information (EWI), applicable standards, and client requirements., • Ensure that technical requirements are clearly communicated to project teams and that designs are developed in line with agreed scopes and strategies., • Lead and oversee the early identification of technologies or systems requiring Technical Authority (TA) approval, and ensure approval plans are developed and implemented., • Schedule and chair design reviews, design assurance activities, and Design Authority Reviews as required., • Lead project coordination activities, including chairing meetings with contractors, consultants, and stakeholders (including remote design office)., • Organise and oversee technical workshops and safety reviews such as HAZID, HAZOP, HAZCON, and other structured risk assessments., • Promote and manage safety across the project portfolio, including Safety in Design, CDM Regulations, and Principal Designer (PD) duties, in collaboration with Project Managers and Lead Engineers., • Review construction methodologies, RAMS, and safety documentation to support safe commissioning and operational readiness., • Provide direct line management and oversight of Engineering Managers and Project Engineers, ensuring effective coordination of day-to-day engineering activities., • Develop, maintain, and strengthen relationships with external stakeholders, including clients, regulatory bodies, transmission operators, and industry partners., • Represent the client at senior technical, regulatory, and stakeholder forums as required., • Support senior management by clearly communicating complex technical issues, risks, and recommendations to enable informed decision-making., • Contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering processes, governance frameworks, and technical standards across the business., • Any other duties as deemed appropriate by the Board to support business growth and operational excellence. Minimum Requirements: • Education & Qualification: o Degree in a relevant engineering discipline (preferably Electrical Engineering) or equivalent professional experience. o Chartered Engineer status or equivalent professional recognition (preferred). • Experience: o Minimum 20 years’ experience delivering major infrastructure and capital projects, including FACTS projects (up to 400kV) within transmission and distribution networks. o Proven track record of managing complex, multi-million pound engineering programmes. o Demonstrable experience engaging with senior stakeholders, regulators, and technical authorities. • Technical Knowledge: o Strong technical knowledge of transmission and distribution networks and associated systems. o In-depth understanding of applicable UK legislation and regulatory requirements, including CDM Regulations, ESQCR, and asset/project governance frameworks. o Advanced understanding of engineering management systems, technical assurance processes, and capital project delivery models. Familiarity with UK DNO/ICP frameworks, NEC contracts, and renewable energy projects. • Skills: o Outstanding leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities. o Ability to set and steer strategic technical direction across the organisation. o Excellent communication skills, with the ability to challenge, influence, and present complex technical matters clearly and concisely. o Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building skills. • Other: o Eligibility to work in the UK. o Willingness to travel occasionally for project meetings, client engagements, and site visits. o Flexible and adaptable to meet business and project demands.
