The Role The Project Lead is a senior contract position with a key role in the setup and running of the new Chemicals & Materials R&D Unit in Slough, a fast-growing and strategically important part of the organisation. This new area of business focuses on consulting services for pharma and chemical manufacturing facilities (from setup to overhaul), research and development logistics, and outsourced production capabilities for the pharmaceutical and chemical markets. You’ll be instrumental in establishing the operational backbone of this shared facility, managing multiple concurrent projects and client requirements in a dynamic, hands-on environment. This role offers extensive exposure to the development and operation of production facilities, working closely with senior stakeholders, engineers, and vendors to deliver high-impact outcomes. Key Responsibilities • Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of complex, cross-functional projects from concept through implementation., • Oversee process development, validation, and equipment qualification within the production and R&D environments., • Collaborate with compliance, validation, and operations teams to deliver projects on time, within scope, and budget., • Identify, evaluate, and integrate innovative technologies to support digital manufacturing and operational efficiency., • Manage vendor relationships and ensure technical alignment across internal and external partners., • Drive continuous improvement, operational excellence, and scalability across the R&D unit’s systems and processes. About You • Degree or higher (MA/PhD) in Engineering, Life Sciences, or IT., • 10+ years’ experience in biotech, pharma, or chemical manufacturing with proven expertise in project management and process implementation., • Strong understanding of change control, validation, and quality systems., • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills., • Demonstrated ability to lead within a matrix environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously., • PMP or equivalent certification is a plus.
