An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Construction Senior Associate to join a growing Real Estate and Construction practice within a highly regarded national commercial law firm. This is a key hire for the Leeds office and offers the chance to play a visible role in the continued expansion of the firm’s northern presence. The Team The wider Real Estate and Construction group operates across multiple UK offices and advises a broad client base including household names, multinational corporates and high-growth businesses across sectors such as retail, hospitality, leisure, marketing and large-scale commercial and residential development. The Construction team has a strong reputation for non-contentious work, alongside a steady stream of advisory and dispute-related matters. The Role This position will focus predominantly on non-contentious construction matters, with some exposure to contentious work. Responsibilities will include: • Drafting and negotiating amendments to standard form contracts including JCT, NEC and FIDIC, • Preparing and negotiating collateral warranties, third party rights, performance bonds and parent company guarantees, • Advising on consultant appointments and sub-contracts (both standard industry forms and bespoke documents), • Supporting real estate colleagues on agreements for lease and licences to alter, • Drafting fit-out contracts, novation agreements, letters of intent and pre-construction services agreements, • Undertaking contract risk reviews for contractors and consultants, • Advising on construction disputes including termination, insolvency, payment issues, extension of time and defects, • Assisting with adjudications and related proceedings, • Drafting and advising on term maintenance agreements The role offers a mix of standalone construction matters and transactional support work on major developments and occupier projects. About You • 4+ years’ PQE within a recognised Construction team, • Strong drafting and technical skills, • Commercially minded with sound risk awareness, • Confident managing matters and dealing directly with clients, • Proactive and ambitious, • A collaborative team player, • Open to occasional travel between offices Experience acting for tenants on office relocations or fit-out projects would be advantageous, as would an interest in business development and contributing to the growth of a regional practice.
