Job DescriptionManager, Fiber Design Location: Mission, KS (Hybrid) Position Type: Full-Time Compensation: Competitive Pay Benefits: Health, Vision, Basic Dental & Life Insurance, STD, LTD, 401k, Paid Time Off, Paid Training Position Summary: The Manager of Fiber Design provides strategic, operational, and technical leadership for fiber network design, construction support, and optimization. This role oversees the end-to-end design lifecycle—including route planning, permitting, vendor management, and regulatory compliance—while managing high-performing teams and cross-functional collaboration. Key Responsibilities • Lead and direct fiber network design and optimization, including project discovery, adherence to design standards, GIS, permitting, progress reporting, final build documentation and cost control via 3rd party design firms or internal resources., • Take ownership of stakeholder communications related to engineering progress., • Develop and execute design strategies aligned with business expansion, network deployment goals, and scalability requirements., • Oversee GIS, CAD/AutoCAD, and asset management systems to ensure accurate records, documentation, and inventory., • Optimize designs for constructability, cost efficiency, long-term maintainability, and compliance with ROW, easements, and regulatory standards., • Audit projects for compliance standards., • Build and maintain relationships with vendors, contractors, customers, municipalities, and community stakeholders., • Lead, mentor, and develop teams of engineers, designers, and field staff; drive best practices and continuous improvement. Roughly 6-10., • Support M&A initiatives, network expansions, and integration planning as needed., • Drive innovation in design processes using automation, advanced engineering tools, and data-driven reporting., • Collaborate cross-functionally with leadership in Operations, Construction, Finance, and Executive Management to align technical execution with strategic objectives., • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Telecommunications, Construction Management, GIS, or related field; Master’s or PE license preferred., • 5-7+ years of fiber network engineering experience, telecommunications, broadband, or utility network engineering., • 2+ years of leadership experience managing internal teams and third-party vendors., • Experience with network planning, permitting, regulatory compliance, and project management for multi-site deployments., • Strong knowledge of fiber network construction practices, splicing, and field operations., • Proficiency in GIS platforms, CAD/AutoCAD, Google Earth/KMZ files, and project management tools (Excel, Power BI, Salesforce, MS Visio)., • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills., • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills for working with cross-functional teams, vendors, and stakeholders., • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail and time management., • Proven experience in budgeting, scope development, and vendor contract management. Other Requirements: • Willingness to travel to markets as needed., • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation. Physical Requirements: • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, reach, stoop, kneel, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, telephone, and keyboard., • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work., • Light to moderate lifting may be required., • Regular, predictable attendance is required; including quarter-driven hours as business demands dictate., • Ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period., • May be required to operate general office equipment including but not limited to copiers, printers., • While in field duties may include walking for extended periods on site, and operating a transport vehicle for extended periods.
