Role Overview We are seeking a high-impact public sector sales hunter with proven experience selling cybersecurity services to US federal, state, local, and education customers. The role is focused on acquiring net-new public sector clients, developing agency-level relationships, and closing complex, multi-year cybersecurity and managed services engagements. The successful candidate understands mission-driven selling, public procurement processes, budget and funding cycles, and the importance of compliance, risk reduction, operational resilience, and measurable citizen or mission outcomes. Public Sector Business Development -Own net-new customer acquisition across targeted federal, state, local, and education accounts and territories. -Build account plans aligned with agency missions, cybersecurity priorities, budget cycles, funding sources, and procurement calendars. -Develop a qualified pipeline through direct outreach, public sector events, partner referrals, contract vehicles, and teaming opportunities. -Establish trusted relationships with agency CISOs, CIOs, CTOs, security leaders, procurement teams, program executives, and other mission stakeholders. Cybersecurity Solution Selling -Position managed cybersecurity services around mission assurance, cyber resilience, regulatory alignment, threat reduction, and operational readiness. -Lead discovery and solution shaping for SOC-as-a-Service, MDR/XDR, SIEM/SOAR, identity and Zero Trust, vulnerability management, threat intelligence, incident response, cloud security, and advisory services. -Translate technical capabilities into clear public value, measurable outcomes, service levels, and implementation roadmaps. Capture, Proposals & Deal Execution -Drive the complete pursuit lifecycle, including opportunity qualification, capture strategy, bid/no-bid decisions, solution coordination, pricing, negotiation, and closure. -Lead responses to RFIs, RFPs, task orders, and other public solicitation formats, in partnership with proposal, presales, delivery, legal, finance, and compliance teams. -Navigate procurement requirements, evaluation criteria, security clauses, subcontracting considerations, and contract terms while protecting margin and delivery quality. -Ensure disciplined handover from sales and capture teams to delivery after award. Partner, Contract Vehicle & Ecosystem Engagement -Build pipeline with technology OEMs, distributors, systems integrators, prime contractors, small-business partners, and public sector channel organizations. -Identify suitable contract vehicles, cooperative purchasing channels, teaming arrangements, and partner-led routes to market. -Support joint account mapping, co-selling, events, solution campaigns, and go-to-market initiatives focused on public sector priorities. Forecasting & Governance -Maintain accurate CRM records, pursuit plans, probability assessments, procurement milestones, and forecast dates. -Meet or exceed quarterly and annual bookings, revenue, and new-logo targets. -Provide clear updates on pursuit health, funding status, competition, dependencies, risks, and next actions. Required Qualifications -8-10+ years of B2B technology or services sales experience, including at least 5 years selling cybersecurity, managed services, or consulting solutions to the US public sector. -Demonstrated success as a hunter, creating opportunities and winning net-new public sector business. -Experience managing long, complex sales cycles involving multiple agency, procurement, technical, legal, and partner stakeholders. -Hands-on experience with public sector capture, RFIs/RFPs, proposal coordination, procurement processes, and contract negotiations. -Strong understanding of cybersecurity domains, including SOC/MDR/XDR, SIEM/SOAR, cloud security, IAM and Zero Trust, incident response, vulnerability management, and cyber resilience. -Working knowledge of commonly referenced public sector security and compliance frameworks, such as NIST, FedRAMP, CMMC, FISMA, CJIS, or relevant state and local requirements. -Strong executive presence, consultative selling skills, written communication, and ability to engage technical and non-technical decision-makers. -Experience in a services-led, MSSP, cybersecurity consulting, or IT services environment. -Familiarity with structured sales and capture methodologies. Bachelor’s degree required. Preferred Qualifications -Existing relationships across federal civilian, defense, state, local, or education cybersecurity stakeholders. -Experience working with government contract vehicles, prime-subcontractor relationships, cooperative purchasing programs, or public sector channel partners. -Proven ability to sell multi-year managed services and outcome-based cybersecurity engagements. -Relevant sales, capture, cloud, or cybersecurity certifications are advantageous.
