Job Title: Dental Hygienist Department: Dental Location: Dental Group - Penfield Hours Per Week: Per Diem Schedule: Monday - Friday | Days SUMMARY: Provides comprehensive dental prophylaxis care, necessary radiographs, and dental education to patients of the Rochester Regional Health Dental Group. Works efficiently with leadership that may include all or some of the following: Chair of Dentistry, Director of Dentistry, General Practice Residency Director, Staff Dentists and Practice Manager in evaluation and development of our dental services. Patients include: children, adults, seniors, special needs, nursing home residents, hospital in-patients, and group home residents from various economic and social backgrounds RESPONSIBILITIES: * Cleans and sterilizes all dental instruments following proper procedures as outlined in the Dental Policy and Procedure Manual. * Works well with the Hospital Sterilization department in maintaining the flow of instruments between departments. * Review and confirm patient’s medical history and note changes in medical record and review with the staff dentist supervising the patient’s care * Maintains operatory equipment to run efficiently and smoothly by cleaning, oiling, and general maintenance of equipment. * Follows the manufacturer’s recommendations in maintaining hand pieces, chairs, suction equipment, and radiographic equipment and documents per department standards. * Demonstrates continued professional competence through continuing educational programs, journals, and educational experiences. * Provides complete dental oral prophylaxis removing calcareous deposits, accretions and stains, including scaling and root planning of exposed root surfaces, polishing teeth including existing restorations. This may include: applying topical agents, topical fluoride applications and topical anesthetic applications, and pit and fissure sealants. * Provides written documentation of all services rendered, treatment necessary, in the patient’s record/chart including the next appointment plan of care. Charting caries and periodontal conditions as an aid to diagnosis by the dentist. * Provides clear written directions in communicating treatment provided (charge-entry); next appointment to be scheduled (number of units and treatment to be scheduled); and treatment pre-determinations to the practice coordinator/billing access associate as directed by the Dentist. * Assist the Department Chief and GPR Director with the continuing review of general practice residents. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: * A.A.S. Degree from an approved Dental Hygiene Program. * Current License or Permit to practice Dental Hygiene in NYS. Essential Duties and Responsibilities • Oversees operation of the residence, • Conducts intakes for individuals entering the residence., • Acts as liaison with other community service providers/referral sources., • Provides information and referral service for telephone inquiries., • In absence of a cook, supervises preparation of meals by residents to assure sanitation & nutritional standards are met., • Provides crisis intervention and conflict management to residents., • Maintains record-keeping responsibilities including client census and database system., • Notifies Residence Manager of any emergency situations immediately., • Assists with providing support and direction for both clients and volunteers engaged in program activities., • Thoroughly completes incident reports within one hour of the occurrence of the incident; all pertinent information must be included such as client behaviors, observations, correct identification of all involved parties, and must include documentation of the proper notifications., • Thoroughly document any shift or client observations/activities as outlined by communication log procedures., • Ensure that all clients meet with the onsite medical providers to ensure that clients are free of any health problems that may be a potential risk to other clients and staff., • Monitors facility and activities of the residents to ensure safety and location of all residents, • Conducts hourly rounds, inspections and overnight visual checks (if working the overnight shift) to ensure presence of residents., • Reports to Residence Manager any serious incidents or violations., • Visually verify presence of all clients as well as ensuring accurate documentation of the presence of all residents by completing sign in/out sheets., • Assists Residence Manager when needed., • Engages security system to always provide safety and security of the premises., • In the event of client discharge, staff notifies Residence Manager and or Program Manager and Department Director., • Maintains safety and organization cleanliness of residence during shift., • Performs laundry, room preparation, and housekeeping tasks, if needed, • Conducts monthly fire drills., • Carries out emergency procedures to ensure safety of residents and staff when required., • Participates in relevant Agency meetings and/or trainings, • Actively pursues development of professional competencies related to job performance through reading, supervision, in-service training and attendance at conferences and workshops., • Awareness and active support of the Agency's Mission, Vision, Values and Strategic Plan. Including, but not limited to, supporting the Agency's Core Competency initiatives of being Collaborative and Community Focused, Innovative and Entrepreneurial, and Culturally Competent and Diverse, • Other duties as assigned Requirements: Qualifications Education: Associate Degree in Human Services or related field preferred. Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. Credentials: Valid and clean NYS Driver’s License. Experience: Two years of experience in the human services field, crisis intervention, residential setting, or emergency services. Knowledge of homeless client issues preferred. Experience with conflict resolution techniques preferred. ESSENTIAL POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES/FUNCTIONS • Provide 15 to 20 instructional contact hours per week in the Henrietta Nursing Program (classroom, lab and clinical), • Provide instruction with the focus on teaching and learning utilizing evidence based best practices for instruction to help assure students in each class successfully meet all course outcomes and classroom objectives., • Plan for and facilitate instruction consistent with the Community of Inquiry Framework, and the Seven Principles for Good Practice, • Assure appropriate course-level rigor in class instruction and assessment methodologies consistent with the College’s Rigor Standards Framework through the development, integration, and delivery of course content planning documents including but not limited to supplemental syllabi, lesson plans, and assessments., • Integrate and include instruction and assessment of each of the College’s four lifelong learning competencies in each course taught., • Establish and maintain a classroom climate consistent with the College values, education promise, and personalized promise., • Model professional practice and standards while in the classroom, lab and clinical site(s)., • Maintain one Skills Assistance contact hour per week for every four instructional hours assigned to support the classroom’s teaching and learning process by publishing a skills assistance schedule each term and actively promoting (and assigning when necessary) student attendance., • Participate in professional development activities., • Maintain a current knowledge of teaching discipline/field of study as evidenced by active participation in professional organizations, maintenance of current scholarly collection of resources (through virtual library), and engagement in active, on-going dialogue with peer faculty., • Participate in program, campus/market, and system faculty development opportunities, including program-specific and campus-wide faculty meetings and in-services and market- and system-sponsored in-services., • Document professional development and learning., • Earn at least 10 continuing education hours annually, • Fulfill administrative duties., • Meet requirements for creation, distribution, and retention and/or submission of beginning- and end-of-term paperwork., • Maintain Administrative hours as determined by the Program Director and Dean., • Adhere to, uphold, and comply with all established operational policies and procedures as described in operating documentation (Official Catalog, Faculty Guide, Associate Guide)., • Participate in curriculum monitoring and development process by providing feedback on curriculum to the Program Director and/or System-level curriculum team., • Provide input to Program Director regarding equipment and supplies needed for nursing classroom and lab., • Participate in preparation for, and ongoing maintenance of records required for national program accreditation., • Serve as resource/advisor/mentor for nursing students., • Attend required College functions including graduation and special activities., • Participate in campus-wide initiatives in support of recruitment, retention, and graduation goal attainment including, but not limited to, monitoring, adjusting (when needed), and assessing classroom and program retention/graduation, and meeting with program advisors on a regular basis to discuss student performance and academic concerns., • Participate in department committee meetings, • Attend advisory committee meetings JOB REQUIREMENTS • Possess a Master’s Degree in Nursing, • Valid New York State Nursing License, • Valid American Heart Association BLS CPR certification, • Teaching experience preferred, • Discipline-specific workplace experiences a plus, • Possess and exhibit qualities of professionalism, integrity, self-esteem, self-motivation, and a strong desire to guide students to improve their career prospects., • Expected to maintain a contemporary skill set in support of active learning and authentic assessment evaluation methodology., • Exceptional organization and communication skills are required.
