OUTDOOR ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION COORDINATOR – for the 2026-27 Academic Year beginning August 1, 2026 Come join us! Alcuin School is looking for a full-time Outdoor Environmental Education Coordinator to join the Elementary faculty team. Learn more about this exciting role below: GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY The Outdoor & Environmental Education Coordinator develops and implements methods to encourage and facilitate students’ physical, social, and emotional development and increase environmental awareness. JOB SCOPE Works independently and has a high level of decision making in determining appropriate outdoor activities and environmental and curriculum to support the student learning. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS • Develops and implements Outdoor Education opportunities for Primary – 7th level students, including lessons in classrooms, on campus, and trips, • Ensures all activities meet safety standards and regulations, thoroughly preparing for outdoor trips by developing comprehensive safety plans, contingency measures, and rain plans., • Coordinates all logistical preparations, including chaperone training, roles and responsibilities, activity planning, and food plans, taking into consideration the needs and limitations of staff, chaperones, and students., • Provides chaperones with a detailed trip plan well in advance., • Ensures thorough preparation by collecting all required forms, including emergency release, medical, and permission forms, and confirms that teachers have all necessary documentation prior to each trip., • Ensures all necessary materials and supplies are prepared and in place prior to each trip., • Submits weekly lesson plans to the Director of Upper Elementary and the appropriate division director, as applicable, and maintains the same records digitally., • Maintains a daily work schedule on Outlook Calendar and shares it with the Director of Upper Elementary., • Maintains records of all communications with parents, teachers, and administration and keeps the Director of Upper Elementary informed in a timely manner., • Communicates all events and outdoor lessons to the appropriate classroom teachers, specialty teachers, Division Directors, Student Support Team, and other relevant parties as necessary., • Communicates any behavioral, emotional, or social concerns observed during lessons and trips to the appropriate teacher and Division Director, while always maintaining the confidentiality of each student., • Actively creates opportunities and teaches Environmental Science to Primary – 6th level students at least once a month with each class., • Responsible for planning and facilitating overnight trips that implement the Outdoor/Environmental Skills curriculum: Middle School outdoor adventure trip, Upper Elementary campouts, and 3rd level overnight, • Camp Tahatan-Organize and recruit camp counselors for a one-week adventure for Alcuin students only, • Supervises children during outdoor activities and off-campus trips, • Reports all accidents/incidents at once. Completes Incident Reports and delivers copies of the same to the parents, the School Nurse, and the appropriate Division Director, • Excellent oral and written communication skills, • Attend team meetings as necessary to communicate details about upcoming trips for the appropriate level, • Collaborate with Program Directors, faculty, and other school personnel as needed or requested, • Keeps Program Directors and parents abreast of any issues while on trips, • Maintains relationships with area organizations to support the Outdoor/Environmental Skills curriculum, • Designs activities to develop teamwork and problem-solving for students, • Researches new outdoor activities, community engagement opportunities, and camping sites; maintains and shares digital records with the Director of Upper Elementary., • Supports the physical, social, and emotional development of students, • Conducts regular safety checks of all outdoor equipment and maintains, tracks, and purchases camping equipment and other outdoor education materials., • Maintains and regularly updates inventory of camping equipment and outdoor materials throughout the school year and conducts a full inventory review at the end of each school year., • Administers the Outdoor and Environmental Education budget in collaboration with program directors, • Participates in a regular evaluation process, including classroom observations, self-evaluation, and annual goal setting, • Strives to exhibit the behavior described in the Alcuin Standards of Faculty Excellence, • Communicates with parents, administrators, and student support staff concerning the emotional and physical well-being of students, • Become familiar with the Montessori science curriculum for primary through 6th grade, and also 7th-grade science, • Participates in parent education events like Learn How We Learn, Open Houses, and other events as requested by the Director of Upper Elementary MARGINAL FUNCTIONS • Completes bus driver training and drive students in an Alcuin school bus as required, • Attends school functions and meetings as outlined in the Employee Handbook, employment contract or as required, • Takes and/or assigns photography duties to volunteers and/or chaperons during trips, • Other tasks as assigned by the Head of School, and the Director of Upper Elementary KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS Required: • Ability to provide documents verifying authorization to work in the U.S., • Must pass Criminal Background Checks, Drug Testing, and Reference Check, • A Bachelor’s Degree in the appropriate field of expertise, • Minimum 2 years of experience in Outdoor and Environmental Education, • Detail-oriented, with advanced organization, logistic, and planning skills, • Experience working with children/young adults and with leading multi-day wilderness trips, • Ability to work outdoors and participate in physical activities such as hiking, climbing, etc., • Ability to interact and communicate appropriately and professionally with parents, students, and colleagues, • The ability to build and maintain positive relationships, • Must demonstrate and enthusiastically support the School’s Mission, • Completes state-mandated bus driver training and drives an Alcuin bus on outings when required, • Attend field trips with classes as needed, • Be available to substitute when available Preferred: • Texas Master Naturalist certification preferred, • Current Wilderness First Responder or EMT preferred (NOLS) PAY RANGE Pay is based on experience and is competitive with Independent Schools in the Dallas, Texas, area. WORK SCHEDULE Schedule: Generally, Monday to Friday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm. There may be some evening or weekend work.
