POSITION SNAPSHOT: Atwell is seeking a Drafting Intern to join our growing Mechanical Design team. This internship offers a valuable opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience in process equipment, piping design, and facility layout using CAD software. The CAD Drafter/Draftsperson Intern role is designed to provide a strong foundation for a future career in mechanical and industrial design. Current projects include oil & natural gas, CO2, hydrogen, and RNG pipelines and facilities. We are looking for motivated, self-starting students who are eager to learn and contribute in a collaborative, team-oriented environment where creativity, technical growth, and excellence are highly valued. WHAT YOU WILL DO: • Assist in preparing Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) in alignment with industry standards, • Generate design documents from 3D models and learn to create piping and equipment models using CADWorx, • Read and help develop technical documents such as plot plans, piping plans, sections, details, equipment models, and piping isometric drawings, while ensuring quality in all deliverables, • Learn how to interpret and apply customer piping specifications within CADWorx Spec Editor, • Support facility and field assessments by helping gather data needed to create accurate as-built documentation, • Collaborate with in-house engineering, drafting, and project management teams, as well as outside consultants, inspectors, and operations personnel, • Assist in preparing drawings and documents that meet company or client quality standards while adhering to project deadlines, • Review and check basic layouts and designs created by other drafters and designers to ensure accuracy and compliance with applicable codes and standards, • Proficiency in AutoCAD is required; experience with CADWorx and AutoCAD Plant 3D is a plus, • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, and Excel, • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, such as architectural/civil plans, piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), equipment layouts, and piping plans, • Able to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks, • Capable of working independently with minimal supervision, • Demonstrates a positive, proactive attitude and strong work ethic, • Background in P&IDs, • Demonstrated ability to use 2D and 3D CAD systems to develop design deliverables. #LI-TK1 Atwell Benefits: To attract and retain the best professionals in the industry, we aim to provide an excellent working environment and a progressive benefits program designed to support your personal and professional needs.
