About This Position Boston Nature Center Camp is seeking a strong, compassionate leader who is passionate about nature and working with children. This role supports staff to foster experiential nature-based learning for campers for our Jamaica Plain camp location based at the British International School of Boston. We aim to promote positive youth development, stewardship for the environment, and a respectful and inclusive safe space for all our campers. Duties & Responsibilities • Serve as a vital bridge between camp staff and the year-round camp director, • Serve as the primary onsite camp contact and administrator during the summer season, • Assist with development and teaching of pre-camp and in-service trainings, • Lead daily meeting/planning sessions with other staff, • Create and maintain a physically and emotionally safe environment for campers and staff, and make independent safety decisions when needed, • Lead, motivate, and evaluate staff in a positive environment, • Manage the day-to-day activities of the camp program and the supervision of the camp staff, • Provide a physically and emotionally safe environment for children, • Maintain a safe physical environment of camp by assisting with and delegating housekeeping tasks, • Regularly monitor work of camp staff, • Lead regular communications with camper families, which could include but would not be limited to: photo taking/upload, blog posts, daily letters, drop off and pick up, phone calls home, • Use First Aid/CPR skills as necessary according to camp’s standing medical orders, • Lead and participate in all camp activities such as opening and closing circle, all camp games, and camp clean up, • Address conflicts, concerns, questions, and issues with campers, caregivers, and staff, • Substitute teach as necessary, • Abide by and enforce camp policies Required qualifications as per Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MA DPH) regulations, American Camp Association standards and Mass Audubon Policy: • Must be at least 21 years of age, • Must have or be willing to complete American Camp Association New Director Orientation course (online or in person), • At least two seasons of experience working as part of an administrative staff at a recreational camp for children, • Provide documented proof of immunity or vaccination record as mandated by MADPH;complete camp health form and waiver, • Hold current First Aid and CPR certifications orparticipatein Mass Audubon provided training to obtain certification prior to the beginning of camp, • Willing to be outdoors for several hours per day in most weather conditions, • Ability to physically access sanctuary terrain and trails easily by foot, • Ability to effectively interact with others, especially children, in camp’s youth-centered environment, • Have experience working in nature-based learning environments, • Have a strong interest or related education experience in Environmental Studies, Biology, Conservation, Education, or related field, • Familiarity with regional natural history, wildlife conservation, or other applicable natural history topics Work Schedule This position starts April 20th, 2026 at 5 to 10 hours per week remote and/or in person. Camp staff training will be held from June 10th through June 19th, 2026. Camp runs from June 22nd through August 29th, 2026. Hours for this position starting June 10th are Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM. Compensation and Benefits This position’s pay range is $22.50-$25.00 per hour; actual pay will be determined based on experience level, qualifications relative to position requirements, and location of the position. This is not a benefits eligible position.
