Drew University is located in the Watts-Willowbrook area of south Los Angeles and was founded in 1966 in the wake of the Watts uprising. CDU was founded to address inadequate medical care in the region and to provide equitable medical education opportunities for under-represented students. CDU offers the only historically black Doctor of Medicine program west of the Mississippi and is strongly invested in the local and regional community. The university leads multiple partnerships and programs to provide equitable healthcare resources in a variety of south Los Angeles neighborhoods. Reporting to the Dean and Associate Dean of the Mervyn M. Dymally College of Nursing (MMDCON), the Assistant Professor and Director Pre-Licensure will provide leadership in the daily operations of the College; and will assist in strategic planning, curriculum development, mentoring of faculty, and teaching selected undergraduate and/or graduate courses. In the absence of the Associate Dean, the position will be responsible for academic and curricular issues and the supervision of faculty and staff within the College of Nursing. The Assistant Professor/Director will be the BSN/ELM Program Director, maintain a teaching load as assigned, prepare or contribute to research and scholarly writings, and participate in university committees as assigned. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: In conjunction with the Dean/Associate Dean, provides leadership in: • Assuming the duties of the Associate Dean in his/her absence, • Provides leadership support to the Office of the Dean, • Serves as a member of the Dean’s executive management team., • Supervises professional and administrative staff as assigned., • Promotes intra- and inter-department collaboration and communication., • Recommends resources needed for the college and programs., • Advise on the short and long-range planning for the college and programs., • Assisting with student advisement, coordination of matters regarding a student’s progress in the program, and student discipline:, • Oversee the arrangement of clinical placements by clinical coordinators., • Visits to new clinical agencies as needed., • Prepares appropriate Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) forms for site approval visits., • Prepares appropriate Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) forms for site approval visits., • Participates in ongoing advisement and monitoring of students, faculty, and program to ensure compliance with all regulatory and accreditation agencies., • Orientation of CON faculty, • Ensures that full-time/part-time faculty files are current regarding RN licensure, CPR, malpractice, and health documentation., • Promote positive relationships with clinical agency personnel and other departments on campus., • Maintains teaching load as assigned., • Participates in research and scholarly writing., • Member of the Nursing Program and College Committees as assigned., • Mentors junior-level faculty as assigned., • Assist with student, staff, and faculty recruitment., • Serve on University Committees, • Promote external relations with professional organizations. EDUCATION: • Master’s degree in nursing and doctorate in a related field required, with coursework in nursing, education, or administration., • Licensed as a Registered Nurse in California, • Knowledge of nursing educational program administration., • Knowledge of the principles and practices of nursing, including nursing guidelines set for the board of Registered Nursing., • Knowledge of curriculum development., • Knowledge of teaching and clinical practice in the nursing field., • Knowledge of current developments, trends, and complexities within nursing and the healthcare industry., • Knowledge of health-related education in a global economy., • Ability to recruit for and market an education program., • Ability to develop a strategic plan., • Demonstrated commitment to service in underserved communities., • Demonstrated leadership in teaching, research, and public service., • Demonstrate a willingness to perform and commit to extra-curricular responsibilities for the department, college, and University., • Faculty, • Assigning and scheduling work activities, • Monitoring workloads/levels, • Performance counseling/coaching, • Planning and evaluating performance., • Providing on-the-job training, • Reviewing and checking work performance and student opinion surveys, • Hiring new employees, • Determining salary actions, • Disciplining/terminating employees.
