Job Description Operation Kindness Humane Society is seeking an Lifesaving Care Tech I to join our team! Operation Kindness is a pioneer in Texas for assisting animals in need of veterinary care, companionship and most of all, a home. We operate a lifesaving animal welfare organization, helping pets and people. This position is located at Operation Kindness HUB-(located in Dallas near I-30 and N. Westmoreland Rd) The schedule is Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday. (7am to 6pm) Working 40 hrs a week. We provide a fun and rewarding work environment with excellent benefits. Both weekend days and holiday availability is required. Hourly employees receive time and a half pay if scheduled to work on 10 company designated holidays. Details about the role: REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Lifesaving Partnerships Hub Manager, LCT Lead, and LCT Vet Tech POSITION OVERVIEW: The Lifesaving Care Technician 1 (LCT 1) is responsible for providing daily care and support for animals housed at the Operation Kindness Lifesaving Partnerships Hub. This position ensures animals receive proper husbandry, enrichment, sanitation, disease prevention, and basic medical care while maintaining a clean, safe, and organized environment. The LCT 1 works closely with rescue partners, transport teams, Community Initiatives staff, and other Operation Kindness departments to support lifesaving efforts for shelter pets and community-owned animals. The LCT 1 position serves as the foundation of the Lifesaving Care Technician career ladder and is designed to prepare staff for advancement to the LCT 2 role through completion of required training, competency evaluations, and performance milestones. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: General Responsibilities: • Follow all Operation Kindness safety, sanitation, and disease prevention protocols., • Report animal welfare concerns, suspected abuse, neglect, or unsafe conditions immediately., • Attend required trainings and staff meetings., • Maintain professional and positive working relationships with staff, volunteers, partners, and clients. Essential Job Duties • Clean, disinfect, and maintain animal enclosures according to SOPs., • Feed animals according to approved feeding plans and special diet instructions., • Ensure animals have continuous access to fresh water., • Administer medications and treatments as trained and assigned., • Monitor animal health and behavior and promptly report concerns., • Walk, exercise, and provide enrichment opportunities for animals., • Assist with daily playgroups and behavior activities., • Perform animal handling and restraint for medical procedures and evaluations., • Assist with intake processing, animal movement, and transport operations., • Maintain accurate kennel cards, animal identification, and PetPoint records., • Wash, fold, and restock laundry., • Clean and sanitize bowls, toys, crates, and equipment., • Maintain organization of storage, laundry, kitchen, and common-use areas., • Assist Community Initiatives and Pet Pantry operations as needed., • Perform opening and closing procedures, including animal welfare and security checks., • Complete additional duties as assigned. CAREER DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM The LCT 1 role is a developmental position designed to prepare employees for promotion to Lifesaving Care Technician 2. Phase 1 – Animal Care and Kennel Operations • Cleaning and sanitation procedures, • Animal feeding and watering procedures, • Dog walking and enrichment, • Playgroup participation, • Laundry and dishwashing procedures, • Fear Free Certification, • Disease prevention and biosecurity Phase 2 – Basic Medical Care • Medication administration, • Vaccine preparation and administration, • Microchip administration, • Preventative treatments, • Fecal collection and testing, • Blood collection and testing, • Medical documentation in PetPoint, • Medical terminology and animal restraint Phase 3 – Intake Evaluation Training • Intake examination procedures, • Medical record entry, • Vaccine and diagnostic testing administration, • Scheduling future medical care, • Passing the LCT competency examination POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Education: • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent experience preferred. Work Experience: -Minimum of one (1) year of professional experience working in an animal shelter, veterinary clinic, animal hospital, rescue organization, boarding facility, or similar animal care environment required. • Experience safely handling dogs and cats of varying sizes, temperaments, and medical needs. · Experience observing animal health and behavior and reporting concerns to supervisors or medical staff. · Experience administering oral medications and following treatment instructions preferred. · Basic knowledge of disease prevention, sanitation, and biosecurity practices preferred. · Familiarity with veterinary medical terminology preferred. · Previous experience as a Veterinary Assistant, Animal Care Technician, Kennel Technician, Lifesaving Care Technician, or similar role preferred. · Experience assisting with vaccines, preventative care, medical treatments, or animal intake procedures preferred. · Experience working in a fast-paced, high-volume shelter or veterinary environment preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities • Strong animal handling and observation skills., • Ability to work independently and as part of a team., • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively., • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment., • Basic computer skills and ability to learn PetPoint., • Commitment to Operation Kindness' mission and lifesaving goals. Physical Requirements: • Requires occasional lifting and carrying animals and shelter materials weighing up to 40 lbs. Requires frequent walking and handling of dogs and cats of a variety of sizes and temperaments., • Requires frequent and extended periods of standing and walking., • Ability to drive company vans/vehicles., • May be exposed to unpleasant odors and noises. May be exposed to bites, scratches, and animal diseases. Working Conditions: • This job requires working indoors and outdoors.
