Job Description Summary of Position Newsday is seeking a “do-it-all” editor who can design pages, edit copy, and write headlines and display copy for the news of the day in all forms: print, digital, narrative stories, video, alternative storytelling and social media. Essential Duties & Functions • Ability to spot big-picture questions in copy, as well as sweat the small details., • Review stories digitally and in print., • Understand internal metrics to better serve loyal subscribers, acquire new ones and help Newsday build diverse audiences., • Communicate/coordinate with other news desk members on stories and packages., • Move copy quickly, with great attention paid to accuracy, fairness and detail. Essential Job Knowledge & Skills • Must know AP style and quickly learn Newsday’s., • Prior newsroom experience required., • Must have strong news judgment and editing skills, with a deep understanding of our products and the role of metrics., • Must be collaborative and communicative with colleagues across all platforms., • Attention to detail, grammatical accuracy and strong organizational skills required., • Ability to be agile and handle multiple assignments simultaneously while meeting aggressive deadlines., • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills required., • Ability and willingness to work a flexible and varied schedule, including weekends, holidays and extended hours as needed to support newsroom needs. Physical requirements This position is hybrid with a three-day-per-week, in-office requirement Compensation The hourly base range for this role is $36.18 - $54.44, to commensurate with experience. Job Description Summary of Position Newsday, an award-winning news organization serving Long Island through its portfolio of print and digital products, has an opening for a versatile sports reporter to cover high school sports in a region with over 150 public and private high schools. The ideal candidate has a range of storytelling skills, can write for various platforms and engage and grow a digital audience. The candidate will be required to collaborate with NewsdayTV, which includes writing scripts and producing video packages. This position requires writing on tight deadlines, excellent reporting skills and the ability to produce fast, clear and high-impact stories that shed new light on trends both on and off the field of play. Reports to High School Sports Editor Essential Duties & Functions • Build relationships with athletes, coaches and administrators to help break news and uncover exclusive stories., • Produce engaging feature and enterprise stories off events, news and trends., • Ability to deliver stories that stand out and drive subscriber value., • Use social media to find sources and stories to supplement our reporting., • Collaborate with our visual storytelling and social media teams., • Collaborate with Newsday TV as we look to expand in key growth areas. Essential Job Knowledge & Skills • The candidate must have at least three years of reporting experience and a track record of developing and building sources to break news., • Demonstrated expertise in creating content for all platforms., • Strong news judgment and sense of what will resonate with our audiences.
