Job DescriptionPosition Overview The Catholic Mass Music Director/Musician provides musical leadership for the 0900 Sunday Catholic Mass and other designated liturgical services at Langley AFB Chapel. This position is responsible for directing, accompanying, and coordinating sacred music that enhances the liturgy, fosters congregational participation, and maintains reverence in accordance with Catholic liturgical guidelines. Key Responsibilities * Provide organ, piano, vocal, and/or instrumental accompaniment for the 0900 Sunday Mass and special Catholic services (e.g., Holy Days of Obligation, funerals). * Select and prepare liturgically appropriate music, subject to approval by the Catholic Priest. * Conduct and lead weekly rehearsals for choir members, cantors, and instrumentalists (minimum 60 minutes, not immediately before Mass). * Recruit, train, and direct volunteer choir members, instrumentalists, and cantors. * Lead congregational singing and ensure active worship participation. This position supports one of the largest and most active Catholic programs in the U.S. Air Force, requiring strong musical, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Möller Opus 6299 pipe organ (or demonstrate comparable musical skills on other instruments). * Proficiency in Gregorian Chant and polyphonic music is highly valued. * Perform for regular Sunday Masses, Holy Days of Obligation, funerals, and other chapel services (total of 124 annual service/rehearsal units). Team & Choir Coordination * Recruit and train volunteer choir members, instrumentalists, and cantors. * Communicate regularly with choir members and collaborate closely with the Catholic Priest and chapel staff. * Attend quarterly liturgical planning meetings.
