Company Description Ahlers & Ogletree Auction Gallery is a full-service estate auction gallery located in Atlanta, GA. The gallery presents 15-20 auctions each year featuring a diverse range of items including fine art, antiques, estate jewelry, and fine Asian antiquities. Owned and operated by industry veterans Robert Ahlers and Christy Ogletree Ahlers, the gallery offers a comprehensive array of auction services and a variety of bidding experiences both in-person and online. Position Overview: We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Auction Cataloguer to research, accurately describe, and place values on a wide range of items, including antique furniture, fine art, silver, decorative arts, and estate collections. This role requires strong research and writing skills, a deep understanding of antiques and decorative arts, and the ability to thrive in a dynamic, deadline-driven environment. This role is not a library or data-entry cataloguing position - it requires art historical knowledge, aesthetic judgment, and experience describing artworks, antiques, and decorative arts for sale. Suitable candidates combines deep expertise in art, antiques, and decorative arts with exceptional writing skills, leadership ability, and strong organizational discipline. Key Responsibilities: • Research, write, and edit accurate catalogue descriptions and condition reports for assigned lots., • Conduct pricing and value research using auction databases, scholarly resources, and comparable sales., • Collaborate with the Lead Cataloguer and other team members to ensure accuracy and consistency across all catalogues., • Coordinate with the Photography and Inventory teams to track property movement through intake, cataloguing, and production., • Proofread and fact-check catalogue data for clarity, formatting, and completeness., • Assist with auction previews by engaging with clients and verifying display accuracy of lots., • Support auction-day operations, including bidder registration and phone/online bidding as assigned., • Participate in off-site cataloguing projects, collection intake, and promotional events as needed. Qualifications: • Required background: Minimum 1–3 years of cataloguing, museum, personal property appraisal, or auction experience., • Strong general knowledge of fine and decorative arts, antiques, furniture. Knowledge and/or certification in jewelry and/or Asian arts a plus., • Excellent writing, editing, and research abilities, with attention to detail and consistency., • Proficiency in identifying materials, techniques, and stylistic periods across a variety of object categories., • USPAP certification preferred; ISA or ASA accreditation a plus; GIA certification a plus., • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines., • Collaborative and flexible approach to working with cross-functional teams., • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and relevant auction or cataloguing software., • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends during auction cycles.
