Data Collection Operator (Contract) As a Data Collection Operator, you will play a key role in supporting the data pipeline that enables advanced machine learning and hardware development. This role is highly hands‑on and people‑facing, requiring frequent interaction with study participants to guide them through data collection procedures, ensure protocol adherence, and deliver a positive and professional experience. You will support day‑to‑day data collection activities, provide real‑time instruction and feedback to participants, address technical issues as they arise, and collaborate closely with engineers and cross‑functional teams to ensure high‑quality data outcomes. Key Responsibilities Manage and support end‑to‑end data collection activities across multiple workstreams. Interact directly with participants to clearly explain procedures, provide training, and correct processes when needed. Deliver a professional, respectful, and supportive experience to participants from diverse experience. Physically assist participants during the data collection process as required (for example, fitting or placing equipment such as earbuds). Monitor workflows to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with established protocols. Troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software issues during data collection activities. Provide clear status updates and progress reports to team leads. Serve as a point of contact for data collection users, responding to questions and escalations professionally. Handle sensitive and proprietary information with a high level of discretion and confidentiality. Work Schedule & Flexibility This position requires flexibility to work one of the following shifts: 7:30 AM – 3:30 PM, 9:00 AM – 4:40 PM, or 1:30 PM – 9:00 PM. Work schedules are published on a bi‑weekly basis to allow for advance planning. Employees may swap shifts with another operator when needed, provided the arrangement is coordinated independently. Required Skills • Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills., • Comfort interacting with individuals from all backgrounds, including gig workers or low‑income participants., • A customer service mindset with a calm, professional demeanor., • Strong attention to detail and quality ownership., • Ability to troubleshoot issues and adapt quickly in real time., • Fluent in English., • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and confidently with participants and team members., • Experience providing instruction, training, or feedback to others., • Ability to perform effectively in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment. Customer service, hospitality, healthcare, research assistant, or other participant‑facing experience. Experience training or guiding users through technical or procedural tasks. Familiarity with data collection environments, laboratories, or hardware setups. Ability to independently diagnose and resolve basic hardware or software issues. Additional Notes from Hiring Team Prior experience in data collection is not required. Strong communication skills, confidence working face‑to‑face with participants, and customer service experience are considered more valuable than Excel proficiency or purely individual contributor experience. This role is highly interactive and hands‑on and is best suited for candidates who are comfortable and confident engaging directly with people.
