Job DescriptionJob Title: Decontamination Technician Job Description The Decontamination Technician supports laboratory move activities by safely and thoroughly decontaminating equipment prior to relocation. This role works from established standard operating procedures, follows strict safety and cleaning protocols, and updates work orders in an electronic system to ensure equipment is ready on schedule. The position involves hands-on work with a variety of lab instruments and requires attention to detail, reliability, and comfort with both physical tasks and computer-based documentation. Responsibilities • Decontaminate laboratory equipment prior to relocation, ensuring all items meet required cleanliness and safety standards before they are moved., • Work with a variety of lab equipment, including biosafety cabinets, CO2 incubators, laboratory refrigerators and freezers, basic lab instruments, microscopes, and other items scheduled for move., • Empty, clean, and prepare laboratory refrigerators, freezers, and other equipment as needed to support safe transport., • Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) associated with each work order, adhering to all safety, decontamination, and cleaning instructions for each specific piece of equipment., • Use the work order management system to receive, review, and complete assigned tasks, ensuring all requests are accurately documented and updated in the electronic system., • Meet scheduled deadlines for decontamination so that equipment is ready in time for planned moves and relocation activities., • Assist with labeling for inventory, including applying and verifying labels on equipment and materials to support accurate tracking., • Support signage and staging activities, including preparing areas for the move, organizing equipment, and ensuring items are properly positioned for transport., • Follow defined work instructions and processes to achieve performance metrics and goals related to timely and effective decontamination., • Maintain a clean and orderly work area, performing basic janitorial and housekeeping tasks related to decontamination activities as needed., • Handle equipment and materials safely, including lifting and moving items up to 30 pounds independently., • Collaborate with laboratory and facilities staff to coordinate decontamination activities with broader move and relocation plans.Essential Skills, • Previous experience working in a laboratory environment., • Hands-on experience with decontamination, sterilization, or sterile processing activities; prior decontamination work is highly preferred., • Ability to follow detailed standard operating procedures and written work instructions accurately and consistently., • Comfort working with laboratory equipment such as biosafety cabinets, CO2 incubators, lab refrigerators, freezers, microscopes, and other basic lab instruments., • Ability to use computers to work within an electronic work order or ticketing system, including updating tickets and documenting work performed., • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety, particularly when handling lab equipment and following decontamination protocols., • Ability to stand on your feet for the majority of the shift and perform physically demanding tasks., • Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds independently., • Reliability in meeting schedules and deadlines associated with equipment moves and decontamination timelines.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Prior experience specifically performing decontamination work in a lab, healthcare, or sterile processing environment., • Exposure to or familiarity with mechanical concepts, basic blueprints, or equipment layouts., • Experience with janitorial, facilities, or cleaning roles in a technical or regulated environment., • Comfort working within a structured, process-driven environment with defined performance metrics and goals.Why Work Here? Work Environment This role is based onsite in a modern, state-of-the-art pharmaceutical laboratory setting. You will work directly in lab and support areas where specialized equipment such as biosafety cabinets, CO2 incubators, refrigerators, freezers, and microscopes are in use. The position involves standing for extended periods, frequent walking, and regular lifting and moving of equipment and materials up to 30 pounds. Work is guided by electronic work order and ticketing systems, with tasks prioritized according to move schedules and operational needs. The environment is process-driven and safety-focused, with established standard operating procedures and clear performance expectations. Dress will align with a laboratory support setting and may include appropriate attire and any required protective equipment as defined by site safety protocols. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of San Diego, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $24.25/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
