Job Description Now Hiring: Mechanical Assembler Job Description This role focuses on building and validating precision opto-mechanical assemblies in strict accordance with documented procedures and standards. You will work with specialized tools and equipment, perform in-process inspections and tests, and ensure that all assemblies meet quality and documentation requirements. The position involves close collaboration with engineers and peers, active participation in continuous improvement, and the preparation of completed assemblies for shipment. Responsibilities • Build and validate precision opto-mechanical assemblies strictly following established procedures and standard operating practices., • Use standardized tools and electric equipment, including torque wrenches, electric and pneumatic screwdrivers, and ball drivers, to perform mechanical assembly tasks., • Enter accurate and timely data into company databases to support traceability, quality records, and production reporting., • Execute simple, standardized process inspections and tests throughout the production process to verify compliance with specifications., • Interface with engineers to support special builds and experiments by following detailed instructions and providing feedback on results., • Collaborate with peers and supervisors to resolve issues, depending on the level and complexity of the problem., • Operate precision cleaning machinery to ensure components and assemblies meet cleanliness standards., • Prepare completed assemblies for shipment, including final checks, packaging, and documentation as required., • Recommend procedural improvements to management to enhance efficiency, quality, and safety., • Follow control measures and processes to ensure the consistent quality of modules produced., • Identify and document discrepant material, including clear descriptions and supporting data, to support corrective actions., • Ability to read and follow written assembly procedures and Bills of Material accurately., • Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings to perform correct assembly and verification., • Ability to use electric and pneumatic tools safely and effectively in a production environment., • Basic computer skills, including the ability to enter and retrieve data from company databases., • Ability to use MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and electronic email systems for communication and documentation., • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to document work, report issues, and collaborate with team members., • Ability to translate and statistically analyze data and effectively report problems through written and/or graphical formats., • Strong customer service orientation with an advanced understanding of building and maintaining positive customer relationships., • Ability to detect visible defects in material under normal lighting with 20/20 vision or vision corrected to 20/20., • Experience with electro-optical and/or opto-mechanical systems is highly desirable., • Experience with environmental testing of assemblies or components is an advantage., • Familiarity with cleanroom practices and working in controlled environments is beneficial., • Comfort working with assembly, blueprint reading, and adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs)., • Ability to learn new tools, technologies, and processes quickly and apply them in daily work. Work Environment This role involves working in a production and laboratory-style environment with moderate temperature and noise levels. You will routinely sit, walk, talk, hear, use hands to keyboard, finger, handle, and feel, as well as stoop, kneel, crouch, twist, reach, and stretch while performing assembly and inspection tasks. You may occasionally move around the campus and lift or move up to 20 pounds. The position may require occasional travel depending on business needs. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus, enabling you to detect visible defects and read detailed data and documents. You will work under deadlines, regularly read and interpret technical information, observe and respond to people and situations, and interact with colleagues throughout the course of work. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of SAN DIEGO, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $30.00/hr.
