Westchester County Department of Public Safety is actively seeking a Deputy Commissioner. Under the general direction of the Commissioner, the Deputy Commissioner shall direct, plan, coordinate, monitor and evaluate the operations of the Department to ensure the protection of life and property, prevention of crime, preservation of public peace and enforcement of all laws and ordinances within the Department's jurisdiction and in the absence of the Commissioner, perform the duties of the Commissioner. Responsibilities Include but Not Limited To: • Perform the functions of the Undersheriff of Westchester County as provided by law., • Act for and on behalf of the Commissioner in the Commissioner’s absence., • Advise and assist the Commissioner in the formulation of policies, plans and programs., • Administer and direct, directly or through subordinate supervisors, such offices, divisions or units of the Department as may be directed by the Commissioner., • Meet regularly with the Commissioner to assist in the review of organization, operations and manpower requirements;, • Evaluate and recommends policy and procedural changes for the improvement of the Department., • Represent the Commissioner in the Department's relations with the community, governmental and law enforcement agencies, and other County departments as may be required., • Supervise the investigation and subsequent preparation for prosecution of criminal cases involving members of organized crime groups, both traditional and non-traditional, including the activity of domestic and foreign terrorist groups and/or individuals., • Cooperate with Federal, State and local law enforcement officials on matters relating to crime groups and domestic and foreign terrorist groups and/or individuals and coordinates Westchester County efforts and communication with the aforementioned agencies., • Manage an intelligence system in cooperation with appropriate officials to collect, analyze, and disseminate strategic and operational intelligence information as it relates to criminal activity in Westchester County., • Represent Westchester County as the Undersheriff in dealing with matters on the State level., • Act as Undersheriff as delegated by the Commissioner, or in the Commissioner’s absence, to sign civil papers., • Perform related functions as required., • Manages an intelligence system in cooperation with appropriate officials to collect, analyze, and disseminate strategic and operational intelligence information as it relates to criminal activity in Westchester; Qualifications Required: Either (a) a Bachelor's Degree* in Police Science, Management, Business Administration or a related field and seven years of law enforcement experience in an administrative and/or supervisory capacity; or (b) an LL.B.* or J.D.* and ten years of prosecutorial experience. Qualifications Desired: Advanced secondary education in criminal justice, public administration, project management, law, or a related field. Fifteen years or more of experience in law enforcement, law, or public safety, including eight years in executive or management roles. Experience with legislative processes, public policy development, or working in a government-facing role. Proficiency in investigative techniques and a deep understanding of legal processes related to certification and disciplinary action. Successful completion of FBINA, FBI LEEDA Trilogy or other advanced law enforcement leadership program. *SPECIAL NOTE: Education beyond the secondary level must be from an institution recognized or accredited by the Board of Regents of the New York State Department of Education as a post-secondary, degree-granting institution.
