Position: Chief Financial Officer (Relocation available) About: vcfo has partnered with a Construction solutions firm based in Denver, CO. Position summary: Our client is currently seeking an on-site Chief Financial Officer to join their team and will consider relocation. The CFO is responsible for the financial oversight of the Company, including financial policy development and implementation, accounting and financial systems, budget planning and implementation, risk management and insurance, taxation, short- and long-term budgeting, forecasting, investments, banking, and bonding. This position directs the organization’s finance and accounting department, information technology department, HR and Legal Department, and ACSs equipment operation. Duties / Responsibilities: Strategy & Executive Management • Supports safe operations and set safety goals/accountabilities within circle of control., • Partners with the President/CEO/BOD and other executives to contribute to the Company’s short and long-range planning, identifying areas of possible growth, expansion, and new profit opportunities., • Function as a member of the Executive Leadership team, responsibilities include providing leadership, supporting company strategies, and attending key meetings for communication, decision making and teamwork., • Assist with determining the Company’s direction, be a confidant and sounding board for the President/CEO/BOD and influence and implement policy at their direction., • Lead and implement bold change initiatives linked to the Company’s strategy., • Form policies/practices for accounting, risk management, internal controls, operational issues, regulatory and legal issues, and business ethics., • Provides day-to-day guidance and oversight of subordinates., • Keeps up to date on overall activities of the team, identifying problem areas and taking or recommending corrective actions., • Provide leadership and guidance to the finance and accounting department and broader organization, fostering culture of continuous improvement and professional development. Accounting and Financial Reporting • Directs and oversees the Company’s overall financial administration and planning including financial policy, accounting systems, budget planning, risk management, insurance, taxation, and short- and long-term forecasting. Makes recommendations to improve the Company’s financial performance., • Responsible for the oversight of all accounting functions including audits, financial reporting, general ledger, project accounting, accounts payable, credit policies, securing lien rights and collections., • Establishes, updates, and oversees company labor billing rates, equipment rental rates and insurance cost recovery rates., • Reviews and monitors the Company’s financial position; Manages and oversees preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual profit and loss statements and balance sheets, in accordance with the US GHHP., • Creates and distributes timely and accurate financial reports to the President/CEO and other senior executives as appropriate., • Responsible for ensuring all regulatory and statutory compliance., • Establishes appropriate internal systems to support financial and business operations consistent with the Company’s growth and reporting requirements., • Ensure timely and accurate reporting to the tax preparers, regulatory auditors, stakeholders, insurance carriers, etc. Planning and Budgeting • Preparation of the annual capital budgets., • Develop, prepare, and maintain financial forecasts, including monthly profit and loss by division and market segment., • Directs and coordinates the establishment and maintenance of the annual budget process and programs involving department heads as appropriate., • Plays a key role in business planning, including establishing annual company revenue and profitability goals, measures progress against the plan throughout the year, interprets variances and implements responses as needed to these variances., • Complete analysis of financial results and develop recommendations (strategic and tactical)., • Develop and utilize forward-looking, predictive models to provide insight into the organization’s operations and business plans., • Monitor, manage, and maximize cash flow to ensure the Company’s liquidity and financial stability, and ensure maximized cash flow. Finance, Banking, Real Estate and Surety Relations • Oversees, manages, and expands the Company’s relationships with banking institutions, construction lenders, bonding and insurance companies, stakeholders, and the financial community., • Monitors and manages the Company’s cash position and drives improvement in net investment in working capital to minimize borrowing and generates earnings on invested capital., • Oversees the retirement plan investments serves as a Trustee and plan fiduciary., • Accountable for proper and accurate tax and distributions to shareholders with insights from the Company’s outside CPA firm., • Collaborates with HR on employee benefit program cost and selection., • Oversee and manager broker relationships., • Manage the Company’s real estate affairs consisting of acquiring, selling, improving real property, as well as managing all company leases and sub-leases with various landlords. Risk Management • Oversees the procurement and maintenance of insurance with adequate limits to assure the Company assets are safeguarded from potential exposure., • Ensure that subcontractor insurance policies are meeting contractual obligations with respect to policy limits and additional insured Endorsements., • Serve as a point person in working directly with insurer representatives, legal counsel, and investigative processes on all claims (other than worker’s compensation)., • Manage a subcontractor prequalification process that results in reduced exposure to losses from subcontractor default., • Manage the Company’s legal affairs and claim resolution in collaboration with the President/CEO., • Accountable for financial oversight on key projects to ensure projects are being managed to established project budgets., • Collaborates with management team in managing and negotiating complex business agreements and contract negotiations; acts as an advisor from the financial perspective on any contracts or subcontracts into which the company may enter., • Confirm financing agreements with construction lenders and monitor adequacy of construction loans to fund construction projects., • Along with the President/CEO, manages the company’s relationships with law firms and reviews business contracts, NDAs, and other agreements., • Perform other duties as assigned. Required Skills / Abilities: • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and Outlook) & Bluebeam Revu., • Proficient communication, interpersonal and organization skills., • Must have strong analytical, accuracy, and attention to detail skills., • Must have the ability to lead and develop high performing teams. Education and Experience: • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and/or Finance from an accredited educational institution. MBA or CPA strongly preferred., • Must have at least 7 years of corporate and management accounting experience., • Finance/accounting experience in the construction industry strongly preferred., • Must be experienced with sound financial planning to protect and grow the revenue and assets of the company for the long-term future of the organization. Work Environment: This role will be located onsite at the Denver office, Monday through Friday. This position requires work in an office setting but would require occasional jobsite visits. PPE will be provided by ACS. Some travel may be required, less than 25%.
