Primary Job Title Registered Nurse/Operating Room Location Rochester, NY Onsite Flexibility Onsite Contract Details Position Type: Contract Contract Duration: 13 weeks Start: As soon as possible Pay Rate: $60.00-$65.00 / Hour (USD) Shift / Schedule: 4x10 hours - rotating between 9:00 AM-7:30 PM and 11:00 AM-9:30 PM, alternating throughout the week depending on day and staffing needs. You may be scheduled 9:00 AM-7:30 PM one shift then 11:00 AM-9:30 PM within the same week. Job Summary This is a contract travel nursing position in the Operating Room at Unity Hospital in Rochester. The role involves supporting diverse surgical specialties including ortho/total joint, trauma, neuro, GYN/urology, vascular, and thoracic procedures. RNs must demonstrate mandatory competency with phlebotomy as well as placing IVs, as these are required skills for any RN at this facility. Call is required, and minimal RTO (Return to Origin) is preferred. Key Responsibilities • Perform general OR nursing duties across a diverse range of surgical specialties including ortho/total joint replacement, trauma surgery, neuro surgery, GYN/urology procedures, vascular surgery, and thoracic surgery, • Provide perioperative nursing support for bariatric procedures including gastric bypass, gastric sleeve, and lap band surgeries, • Assist with vascular interventions including aortic aneurysm repair, abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, carotid angioplasty, carotid artery stenting, carotid endarterectomy, endovascular aneurysm repair, femoral popliteal bypass graft, renal artery bypass surgery, and vein stripping, • Support thoracic procedures including lobe resection, lung resection via thoracotomy, mediastinoscopy, VATS (Video-Assisted Thoracic Surgery), and bronchoscopy, • Assist with ENT procedures including endoscopic sinus procedures, laryngectomy, radical neck dissection, septoplasty/rhinoplasty, tonsillectomy/adenoidectomy, tracheostomy, and bronchoscopy, • Support gastrointestinal procedures including colonoscopy, PEG tube placement/exchange, appendectomy, cholecystectomy, colon resection, hernia repair (inguinal/umbilical), laparoscopic assisted procedures, and peg tube placement/exchange, • Provide nursing care for general surgical procedures including mastectomy, thyroidectomy (partial/total), Whipple procedure, and abdominal/vaginal hysterectomy, • Assist with gynecological procedures including anterior/posterior repair (colporrhaphy), bilateral tubal ligation, dilation & curettage, laparoscopic assisted gynecological procedures, therapeutic abortion, and vulvectomy, • Support neurosurgical and spinal procedures including ALIF (Anterior Lumbar Interbody Fusion), anterior cervical fusion, cervical fusions, craniotomy, insertion of VP shunt, laminectomy/discectomy, lumbar fusion, and XLIF (Extreme Lateral Interbody Fusion), • Assist with orthopedic and spine surgery procedures including anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, arthroscopy, arthrotomy, carpal tunnel release, closed reduction of fractures, open reduction of fractures, spinal fusion, total joint replacement, ankle fusion, bunionectomy, and metatarsal surgery, • Provide nursing support for plastic and reconstructive procedures including abdominoplasty, breast augmentation, fat grafting, free flap with microvascular repair, and mastectomy with TRAM flap reconstruction, • Support urology procedures including circumcision, cystectomy, cystoscopy, laparoscopic assisted cases, nephrectomy, prostatectomy, and transurethral resection of the prostate, • Assist with robotic-assisted surgery using the da Vinci Xi Surgical System, • Provide nursing care for otologic procedures including myringotomy with tubes and tonsillectomy/adenoids, • Respond to code situations and fire safety events, • Manage latex allergy precautions, • Administer blood and blood products, • Maintain infection control standards, • Observe laser safety and radiation safety protocols, • Perform specimen handling and labeling, • Execute Universal Protocol (Time out) procedures, • Perform urinary bladder catheterization, • Demonstrate mandatory competency with phlebotomy and IV placement, which are required skills for any RN at Unity Hospital Required Skills, • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification, • Experience with general OR nursing across multiple surgical specialties, • Competency with phlebotomy, • Competency with IV placement, • Experience with ortho/total joint replacement and trauma surgery, • Experience with neuro surgery, • Experience with GYN/urology procedures, • Experience with vascular surgery, • Experience with thoracic surgery, • Knowledge of infection control standards, • Proficiency with specimen handling and labeling, • Understanding of Universal Protocol (Time out) procedures, • Knowledge of laser safety, • Knowledge of radiation safety, • Ability to manage latex allergy precautions, • Code response capability, • Fire safety knowledge, • Administration of blood and blood products, • Urinary bladder catheterization skills Preferred Skills, • EPIC experience Education Requirements, • RN License (Registered Nurse) required, • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required Required Experience, • Minimum 3 years of nursing experience required, • Experience as a first-time traveler: Not accepted -
