Job Description Job Summary: The Senior Design Specialist I is a highly experienced design professional responsible for leading advanced CAD/BIM modeling, multi-disciplinary coordination, and quality assurance for complex architectural and engineering projects. Positioned at Level 5 in the Design Technician career path, this role bridges technical expertise and leadership by setting CAD/BIM standards, guiding project teams, and mentoring junior designers. The Senior Design Specialist I plays a critical role in ensuring project deliverables meet the highest standards of technical precision, regulatory compliance, and design intent. Primary Essential Functions: • Lead the creation, management, and coordination of advanced 2D and 3D CAD/BIM models for large-scale, multi-disciplinary projects., • Direct and oversee project-wide design coordination, integrating architectural, structural, MEP, and specialty systems into cohesive models., • Establish and enforce CAD/BIM standards, workflows, and best practices across multiple projects and teams., • Perform advanced quality control reviews on design documentation, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and compliance with codes, standards, and project requirements., • Mentor and train junior and mid-level designers, providing technical expertise, problem-solving support, and professional development guidance., • Collaborate with project managers, architects, and engineers to resolve complex design challenges and implement innovative solutions., • Deliver high-quality visualizations, presentations, and 3D renderings for client and stakeholder engagement., • Research, test, and implement emerging CAD/BIM technologies and workflows that enhance team efficiency and project outcomes. Competencies (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities): Knowledge • Advanced knowledge of CAD and BIM software platforms (AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, and related tools)., • Strong understanding of construction methodologies, technical drawing standards, and documentation processes., • Familiarity with building codes, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices., • Awareness of emerging digital design technologies and trends in BIM-enabled project delivery. Skills • Expert proficiency in digital modeling and multi-disciplinary coordination., • Leadership and mentorship skills for developing team capabilities., • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities for resolving design and software challenges., • Effective communication skills for engaging clients, project stakeholders, and team members., • Organizational skills for managing multiple concurrent projects and deliverables. Abilities • Ability to lead and deliver high-stakes, large-scale design efforts independently., • Ability to enforce CAD/BIM standards and drive consistency across teams., • Ability to mentor, coach, and elevate technical expertise across junior staff., • Ability to troubleshoot complex issues and implement innovative, effective solutions., • Ability to balance technical excellence with project delivery requirements. Qualifications: Required • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in CAD, BIM, Architecture, Engineering, or related field., • 8+ years of progressive experience in CAD/BIM design, with significant multi-disciplinary project exposure. Preferred • Advanced certification in AutoCAD, Revit, or other BIM software., • Demonstrated leadership experience within a CAD/BIM team. Physical Requirements: • Ability to remain seated for extended periods while working at a computer or attending meetings., • Frequent use of standard office equipment (computer, keyboard, phone, printer)., • Occasional light physical activity such as walking, standing, or carrying materials (30 lbs.)., • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in person, over the phone, and through written communication.
