We're currently looking for a Benefits and Leave Coordinator to join our team at our corporate headquarters in Pontiac, Michigan. ABC Appliance is the parent company of ABC Warehouse, Hawthorne Appliance, and Mickey Shorr. As our Benefits and Leave Coordinator, you will play an important role in supporting the administration of employee benefits programs, leave of absence, workers' compensation, and incident management. This position works closely with employees and managers to ensure benefits enrollments, changes, and leave requests are handled accurately, efficiently, and with a high level of service and confidentiality. Essential Job Duties Employee Benefits Administration • Processes benefit enrollments, qualifying life event changes, medical support orders, and COBRA elections through HRIS, payroll, and insurance carrier systems to ensure accurate records and payroll deductions., • Monitors and follows up on incomplete benefit enrollments or required documentation (such as proof of qualifying life events) to ensure timely and accurate processing in accordance with plan rules., • Responds to employee inquiries regarding benefit plans, eligibility, coverage, and self-service tools, providing clear, timely, and professional assistance., • Works in coordination with the HR Manager and other HR team members to reconcile payroll deductions and carrier invoices and assists with identifying and resolving discrepancies., • Supports annual open enrollment activities, including preparing employee communications, processing enrollments, and assisting the HR Manager with preparation of election data for insurance carriers., • Processes and tracks leave of absence cases (including FMLA, non-FMLA medical leave, personal leave, and disability-related leave) using the HR Case Tracker and established departmental workflows., • Coordinates documentation requests, certification tracking, and communications with employees, managers, and third-party administrators., • Reviews incoming documentation for completeness and escalates complex, non-routine, or policy-related questions to the HR Manager as appropriate., • Maintains accurate leave, status change, and demographic data within HR systems and assists with submission of required census or demographic information when necessary., • Processes workplace incident reports and prepares First Report of Injury (FROI) documentation in accordance with established procedures., • Tracks workers’ compensation claims and maintains case documentation using the HR Case Tracker and related HR systems., • Serves as an administrative point of contact for injured employees, providing procedural guidance related to claim documentation and return-to-work processes., • Coordinates follow-up on medical restrictions, documentation, and return-to-work status updates, escalating complex issues to the HR Manager as needed., • Maintains accurate records related to workplace incidents and claims and assists the HR Manager with reporting and trend analysis., • Provides administrative support to other areas of the HR department during planned or unplanned absences, as part of shared departmental workflows., • Assists the HR Manager with audits, process improvements, and special projects as assigned., • Handles sensitive employee and medical information with a high degree of confidentiality, accuracy, and professionalism, in compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, company policies, and internal procedures., • Escalates compliance questions, policy interpretation issues, or complex situations to the HR Manager., • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred., • Minimum 1-3 years of experience in Human Resources, employee benefits administration, leave coordination, workers' compensation support, or a related HR support role., • Strong attention to detail with the ability to follow established processes accurately., • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple case workflows simultaneously., • Strong written and verbal communication skills., • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with professionalism and discretion., • Working knowledge of HRIS systems and Microsoft Office Suite., • Generous employee discounts, • Ongoing training, • Advancement opportunities based on ability and proven track record of high performance, • 401(k) with company match, • Profit Sharing, • Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance with Health Savings Account (HSA) and Flexible Spending Account (FSA) options, • Short-term Disability and Long-Term Disability Insurance, • Company paid Basic Life and AD&D Insurance at $0 cost to employees, • Supplemental Life, Accident, Critical Illness, and Hospital Insurance, • Paid Time Off and Holidays We are an equal opportunity employer that does not discriminate on the basis of race, national origin, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, protected veteran status, disability, age, or other legally protected status.
