JOB TITLE: Adoptions Manager FLSA: Exempt FT/PT: Full Time SUMMARY The Adoptions Manager oversees a team of Adoptions Counselors in a high-paced, high-volume adoption environment using an open, informative, and non-judgmental approach to matching adopters to animals in the shelter. They will be asked to both perform and oversee adoptions of all species of domestic animals. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITES: Adoptions staff and volunteers JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE: • Work across departments to ensure adoptions are transparent and that animals are moving through adoptions as quickly as possible for a positive outcome., • Develop and coordinate adoptions program, including developing, writing, and disseminating policies and procedures with an eye toward progressive, non-judgmental, and evidence-based policies and procedures., • Attend and participate in meetings regarding animal flow through the shelter., • Manage Adoption Counselors, both staff and volunteers, including training, scheduling, time & attendance, staff development and problem solving., • Work closely with Placement leadership to ensure consistent adoption practices, • Work with Volunteer Services to recruit and train a robust volunteer adoptions base including recruiting, onboarding, training, scheduling, and oversight., • Assist with planning and executing adoption events. Collaborate with Communications and Development with external communications surrounding adoptions., • Conduct adoptions and client-animal meetings as needed. Act as a resource with challenging animals, clients, and unusual adoption scenarios., • Keep abreast of shelter population and public demand to work with other departments to ensure a shelter population that addresses public interest. Identify animal care, behavior, and health needs. Document and report to the appropriate department. Work with the health department to ensure the highest standards of day-to-day care., • Represent Pasadena Humane at outside meetings, act as a liaison with other organizations and contractors/partners as needed. Make presentations and speak publicly about Pasadena Humane., • Uphold Pasadena Humane’s mission and contribute to building a culture of philanthropy., • Ensure a safe working environment and actively participate in PH safety programs., • Assist with other programs as assigned. Participate as needed in special department projects., • Work as a team member with other departmental leaders., • Perform other duties as assigned REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS • High school diploma (or GED/proficiency certificate)., • Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of appointment., • 5 years experience working in animal welfare with a minimum 2 years experience in a supervisory role with training responsibilities., • Experience working with the public and individual diverse in age, culture, and in varied settings, • Excellent interpersonal, communication (both written and verbal), leadership, customer service, and public speaking skills, including the ability to write/edit materials for publication., • Must have a strong knowledge of animal health and behavior including knowledge of dog, cat, rabbit, and other pet breed characteristics, temperament, training, and handling., • Strong customer service and skills. Ability to model and provide excellent service in a fast-paced environment serving clients with differing needs and emotional states., • Bilingual a plus (Armenian, Spanish, Mandarin, and/or Cantonese)., • Creative problem solver., • Proficient in computer applications, including the shelter system, Microsoft suite and email. Experience with Volunteer Matters is a plus., • Must have a valid class C driver’s license with a clean driving record and insurable to drive company vehicles, maintained during the course of employment., • Commitment to improving professional skills and knowledge by attending seminars, workshops, conferences and the like. Must attend regular training and participate in continuous learning opportunities., • Ability to meet deadlines and work independently., • Must have program development skills and an eye for departmental improvements., • Experience using data to inform decisions., • Excellent communication and management skills and proven organizational ability., • Must be able to lift to 50lbs., • Must be able to model Pasadena Humane’s Core Values of Learning, Integrity Collaboration and Kindness., • Strong sense of professional judgment and ability to maintain confidentiality. WORKING CONDITIONS Fast-paced environment. Employees are exposed to numerous animals (living and deceased), including those with uncertain dispositions. They are required to act in a safe and responsible manner. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
