Job Description Job Title: Lead Medication Technician Department: Assisted Living / Memory Care Reports To: AL Director / Regional Director / Executive Director Job Summary span class="NormalTextRun SCXW45013159 BCX8">is responsible for oversight of medication management in the assisted living and Memory Care community. This role ensures >span class="NormalTextRun SCXW45013159 BCX8">safety, accuracy, and time management of all medications while providing leadership, training, and guidance to Medication Technicians and care staff. Lead Med Tech acts as a medication resource, supports regulatory compliance, and promotes high standards of resident care and safety. Key Responsibilities and Duties Medication Administration & Oversight Administer medications and treatments to residents in accordance with physician orders and state regulations Ensure accurate documentation of medication administration (MARs) Monitor residents for medication effectiveness, side effects, and adverse reactions Report medication errors, incidents, and changes in resident conditions promptly and appropriately Run medication compliance report daily on Alis to see which medication needs refills or missed. Ensure timely follow up with OTC medication with families for refills Ensure medication technicians follow up with the pharmacy for medication refills and with >span class="NormalTextRun SCXW45013159 BCX8"> office for prescription renewals. Ensure the daily task list and medication cart audit are completed and submitted. Check / ensure Med techs are checking for expired medication, logging in / destruction of medication appropriately. Narcotics needs to be destroyed with a supervisor. Other duties as assigned by supervisor. Leadership & Supervision Provide day‑to‑day oversight and support for Medication Technicians Serve as a mentor and clinical resource for medication‑related questions or issues Assist with staff orientation, training, and competency validation Ensure medication technicians follow policies, procedures, and best practices Scheduling of Med techs. Compliance & Quality Assurance Ensure compliance with state regulations, assisted living licensing requirements, and community policies Perform medication audits and chart reviews regularly Assist with inspections, surveys, and corrective action plans Maintain proper storage, labeling, and disposal of medications Medication Management & Coordination Manage medication orders, refills, and pharmacy coordination Communicate with physicians, pharmacies, nurses, and families regarding medication concerns Ensure timely transcription of physician orders to MARs Monitor and maintain medication inventory and supplies Resident Care & Communication Provide respectful, resident‑centered care that promotes dignity and independence Observe and report changes in residents’ physical or cognitive condition Respond to residents and family questions regarding medication administration (within scope of practice) Promote a safe, calm, and supportive assisted living environment Administrative & Operational Support Assist leadership with scheduling of medication staff as needed Support policy updates and implementation of new medication procedures Participate in staff meetings, care conferences, and ongoing training Qualifications Education & Certification High school diploma or equivalent required Current Medication Technician certification (per state requirements) CPR/First Aid certification required Experience Minimum of 1–3 years’ experience as a Medication Technician in assisted living or similar setting Prior lead or supervisory experience preferred Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities span class="EOP Selected SCXW45013159 BCX8" data-ccp-props="{"134233117":true,"134233118":true,"201341983":2,"335559740":300}"> Leadership and team‑building skills Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities Effective verbal and written communication skills Ability to handle sensitive information confidentially Compassionate, dependable, and professional demeanor Physical & Work Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods Ability to bend, lift, and assist residents as required Flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and on‑call coverage as needed
