Job Description & Requirements • Specialty: OR - Operating Room, • Discipline: RN, • Duration: Ongoing, • 40 hours per week, • Shift: 10 hours, days, • Employment Type: Staff Position Summary The Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) – Operating Room is a frontline clinical leader responsible for supporting the daily operations, staff supervision, and patient care activities within the surgical services department. Working in partnership with the Nurse Manager, the ANM helps ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality perioperative care, while fostering a positive work environment and promoting professional growth among OR staff. Key ResponsibilitiesOperational Leadership • Assist in coordinating and overseeing daily OR workflow, including case scheduling, room assignments, staffing, and resource allocation., • Monitor real-time patient throughput to ensure timely starts, smooth transitions, and minimal delays., • Support compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards (e.g., Joint Commission, CMS, AORN)., • Participate in development, implementation, and evaluation of departmental policies, procedures, and quality initiatives.Clinical Support, • Provide hands-on clinical guidance, acting as a resource for RNs, surgical technologists, and other perioperative staff., • Ensure adherence to evidence-based perioperative practices, including infection prevention, sterile technique, and patient safety protocols., • Respond to and help resolve clinical issues, escalations, or unexpected events during surgical procedures.Staff Leadership & Development, • Assist with recruitment, onboarding, training, and ongoing competency validation for OR staff., • Provide constructive feedback, conduct performance evaluations, and support staff coaching and professional development., • Promote a culture of teamwork, accountability, and respect., • Serve as charge nurse or assume leadership coverage in the absence of the Nurse Manager.Quality, Safety & Compliance, • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, data collection, and root-cause analyses to enhance patient outcomes., • Promote a just culture and support event reporting, follow-up, and corrective action plans., • Ensure compliance with safety protocols, including surgical counts, time-outs, and infection-prevention standards.Communication & Collaboration, • Facilitate effective communication among surgeons, anesthesia providers, perioperative staff, and support teams., • Represent OR nursing leadership in meetings, committees, and interdisciplinary discussions., • Assist in maintaining strong vendor relationships and ensuring appropriate availability of instruments, supplies, and equipment.QualificationsRequired, • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license., • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)., • Minimum 3 years of perioperative nursing experience (circulating and/or scrubbing)., • Certification in perioperative nursing (CNOR) or willingness to obtain within a specified timeframe., • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.Preferred, • Previous charge nurse, team lead, or supervisory experience., • Master’s degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or related field.
