THE OPPORTUNITY The Bronx Community Justice Center, a program of the Center for Justice Innovation, works to create a safer, more equitable Bronx through community-driven safety initiatives, violence prevention, youth opportunity, and economic development efforts. Save Our Streets South Bronx is a replication of the Chicago Project for Violence Prevention’s evidence-based Cure Violence program, a cutting-edge gun violence prevention model that aims to reduce and prevent shootings through the use of public health strategies. The Bronx Community Justice Center is seeking an Outreach Worker for the Save Our Streets South Bronx program. Reporting to the Outreach Worker Supervisor, the Outreach Worker will serve as a mentor and peer counselor to a caseload of 10-15 individuals most impacted by community violence, redirecting them toward positive attitude, behavior, and lifestyle changes. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: • Identify and form relationships with individuals who are at high risk of involvement in shootings and killings to help them rethink the impulse to act violently and redirect their lives in more positive directions;, • Build and maintain a caseload of participants, and develop and implement a personalized risk reduction plan with each participant;, • Work with community partners and the rest of the S.O.S. team to identify and diffuse “hot spots” for shootings and violence;, • Intervene in local conflicts to try to prevent an outbreak of violence, and work to prevent retaliations when violence does occur;, • Provide clients with support and linkages to programs and opportunities in the community (e.g., job programs, GED, drug treatment, and mentoring);, • Conduct outreach to the community (individually and as a team member) to build strong relationships with youth, residents, businesses, and community groups;, • Participate in organizing responses to shootings;, • Increase visibility when shootings/killings take place in the target area and surrounding target area;, • Keep supervisor informed of all relevant community activities;, • Document all work including shootings and other acts of violence prevented, case notes, referrals, contacts with participants, and changes in participant’s status as directed by the Outreach Worker Supervisor and Program Manager;, • Refer participants to programs that are a part of the New York City “Crisis Management System” including therapeutic services, legal services, and employment services, as needed;, • Plan, attend and help facilitate community and participant events;, • Attend and participate in all mandatory staff meetings, trainings, workshops and other team meetings as required, which may include non-traditional business hours;, • Attend weekly supervision and keep the Outreach Worker Supervisor informed of all work-related activities; Position Location: South Bronx Position Type: Full-time, evenings and weekends. THE OPPORTUNITY Brooklyn Justice Initiatives (BJI), the largest operating project of the Center, seeks to re-engineer the experience of criminal court in Brooklyn, New York, by providing judges and attorneys meaningful alternatives to bail, fines, and jail sentences. Operating out of Kings County Criminal Court along with community-based offices, BJI is a team of social service providers, court-based resource coordinators, mental health practitioners, compliance specialists, and others who seek to improve the quality of justice. Supervised Release offers an alternative to jail by providing pretrial supervision, case management, and voluntary social services to people charged with misdemeanor and felony offenses, and in doing so, uses an arrest as a window of opportunity to change the direction of a participant’s life, avoiding the harmful effects of incarceration. Program participants are monitored to ensure their appearance at court dates and mandatory programming and receive referrals to services such as job training, drug treatment, and mental health counseling. BJI is seeking a Supervising Case Manager for the borough’s Supervised Release Program (SRP) to supervise our case management and field engagement staff who are based in the community. Reporting to the Case Management Coordinator, the Supervising Case Manager will be responsible for providing substantive and consistent trauma-informed supervision to Case Managers, Senior Case Managers, and Community Navigators to ensure fidelity to the program model and quality service to participants in the community. Supervising Case Managers ensure that staff complete program-specific training, consistently apply policy, protocol, and best practices in alignment with that training, maintain routine and accurate data entry and court reporting, and collaborate effectively across SRP teams to build on successes and proactively address challenges. This position is also responsible for completing comprehensive and routine case audits in partnership with the compliance team to ensure consistent application of policies, protocols, and best practices. This in-person and on-site position leverages exemplary communication, data management, and supervisory skills to support their staff in the execution of their responsibilities. Though Supervising Case Managers will not carry a standard caseload, this position is responsible for supporting on-site de-escalation efforts in service of participants presenting with acute needs, covering on-site engagement with their staff’s participants when staff are out of the office or otherwise engaged, and responsible for ensuring quality service to all participants on their staff’s caseload. Key Responsibilities Manage and execute donor inquiries, ensuring prompt and personalized responses via phone calls, email, acknowledgment letters and handwritten notecards. Execute and process donor/grantor communications with high personalization, including tax acknowledgment letters, grant/impact report updates and thank you notecards. Maintain a detailed-oriented database including donation transactions, communication updates, visit reports and journal entries, and be able to pull various analytical reports. Coordinate and communicate with our teams in the U.S. and Kenya on programmatic activities and updates Handle logistical support of guest experiences, including pre-trip, on-site, and post-trip touchpoints, including personalized follow-ups and progress tracking. Coordinate team calls, send out agenda items, take notes for dissemination and follow up on action items for the team Place orders for printing projects and work with designer and external vendors. Assist with coordinating email blasts and direct mail materials to donors on program updates and fundraising campaigns, including list segmentation and email blast setup. Involved with donor engagement strategies and implementation plans, including individual and major donor cultivation. Organize and pull captivating stories, photos and videos to be shared with donors. Establish and implement monitoring and evaluation processes to assess program results and effectiveness. Analyze data and provide insightful feedback to make informed recommendations for program improvement. Provide overall administrative and program support for the team; including but not limited to maintaining the company calendar, preparing documents and presentations, organizing meetings and travel, tracking inventory supplies, and providing cross-functional support to team members in our country office. REPORTING RELATINOSHIPS: This position reports to the Accounting Manager. However, the Senior Revenue Accountant will regularly interact with the VP, Controller and the Assistant Controller to ensure accurate financial reporting. The Senior Revenue Accountant will also have frequent contact with program staff, the Development team, and other external parties to ensure proper grant management and financial compliance. JOB SUMMARY: The Senior Revenue Accountant is responsible for leading all core accounting functions related to grants, contracts, billing, revenue recognition, and financial reporting. This role ensures compliance with nonprofit GAAP, ASC 606 and ASC 842 standards, and fund accounting rules. The Senior Revenue Accountant supervises one accounting team member, providing guidance, coaching, and performance management. The position collaborates cross-functionally with Development, Program, Compliance, and Finance teams and plays a key role in audit preparation and compliance activities. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Grants & Contributions Accounting – 25% • Review and document all grant agreements for conditions, restrictions, and revenue recognition under ASC 606 and fund accounting rules., • Prepare accounting memos documenting contract-specific awards or agreements., • Calculate and prepare monthly journal entries for net asset release based on grant restrictions., • Track and maintain restricted grant funds to ensure proper usage and compliance., • Reconcile conditional contributions categorized as deferred revenue and recognize revenue when conditions are met., • Collaborate with program staff and Development teams to track grant spending and ensure alignment with budget and funding terms., • Ensure accurate maintenance of vendor and contractor data for grant and funding compliance., • Maintain comprehensive finance records, including journal entries, reconciliations, insurance policies, and vendor W-9s., • Review invoices for contracts, grants, and program services., • Track contract receivables, billings, and payments including GSAF and MATCH, ensuring timely collections and reconciliations., • Review and ensure accurate ASC 606 revenue recognition for all contracts and service agreements., • Oversee monthly billing updates and reconciliation reports., • Track and maintain contract receivables, actual and estimated billings, and prepare monthly reconciliations for childcare services., • Record and reconcile billings, collections, and prepare journal entries for related childcare invoices., • Oversee and ensure the accurate ASC 606 revenue recognition process for childcare services., • Collaborate and build strong relationships with program officers and the grant management team., • Serve as the primary resource for Accounts Receivable, Contributions Receivable, and Deferred Revenue., • Prepare monthly journal entries and ensure accurate reconciliation of financial transactions (including BATOAH, GSAF, and MATCH)., • Analyze financial statements, review irregularities, and prepare adjusting journal entries as needed., • Reconcile financial transactions, including Receivables Fixed Income and ROU Assets accounts., • Track and record interest on restricted funds and ensure compliance with funding agreements., • Prepare journal entries and schedules for lease accounting (ASC 842)., • Prepare monthly closing entries, including banking interest, administrative fees, and lease transactions., • Prepare month-end closing entries and reconciliations for NMTC Sub CDEs as requested., • Process invoices by reviewing and verifying accuracy via three-way match and compliance with company policies with proper authorization and accurate coding for general ledger posting., • Maintain vendor records and reconcile vendor accounts., • Generate aging and payment history for 1099 reporting., • Assist with integration and maintenance of accounting software with banking platform to automate bank reconciliations and provide real-time banking updates., • Calculate and prepare journal entries for loan receivables, including discounts on loans (e.g., EQT loans)., • Record and reconcile amortization of loan receivables and maintain a schedule for loan discount amortization., • Ensure interest on restricted funds is tracked and recorded according to funding agreements and process accruals of interest payable., • Assist in the annual audit process, ensuring all records are audit-ready., • Prepare quarterly grant compliance reports (for NMTC) and financial documentation for external funders., • Ensure compliance with donor and funder requirements, including tracking and reporting of fund disbursements., • Support regulatory reporting, including IRS Form 990 schedules and other required financial disclosures., • Prepare and submit annual state and county property tax exemption filings., • Review monthly check log, adding coding and descriptions to deposit lists., • Book money market transactions as part of cash reconciliation., • Prepare internal wire transfer forms for grant disbursements and ensure proper documentation for fund transfers., • With guidance from the Accounting Manager, oversee one Accounting Specialist, providing guidance, training, and support., • Review and approve work related to journal entries, reconciliations, billing, and vendor data maintenance., • Monitor workload distribution and ensure timely completion of deliverables., • Conduct regular check-ins and performance evaluations., • Support ad hoc financial reporting and analysis as needed., • Serve as backup for other accounting positions during absences or vacancies., • Participate in process improvement and cross-departmental initiatives. QUALIFICATIONS: • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required., • 3-5 years of accounting experience required (preferably in nonprofit, grant management, or fund accounting)., • CPA certification is preferred but not required., • Strong understanding of ASC 606 (revenue recognition) and nonprofit fund accounting preferred., • Proficiency in G/L accounting software (MIP Fund Accounting preferred)., • High attention to accuracy, detail, and deadlines., • Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment., • Ability to review and self-check work for accuracy and completeness, • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with finance and program staff., • Must be proactive, self-motivated, and capable of working independently., • Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities effectively.
