    JOB SUMMARY Hillside Provisions is a family-owned café and restaurant opening in Summer 2026 in Harrison, NY. We will offer exceptional craft coffee alongside morning, daytime, and evening services, aiming to create a new level of dining experience in Westchester County. We are seeking an Executive Sous Chef to work closely with the BOH team, ensuring the seamless execution of all restaurant and café food operations with a specific focus on the in-person dining experience. The primary responsibility of this role is to support, execute, and refine all culinary operations while serving as a steward of food quality, systems, and team culture. This is a foundational leadership position requiring a sophisticated balance of high-level culinary execution, rigorous kitchen management, and staff mentorship. RESPONSIBILITIES • Coordinating with the Executive Chef to oversee all kitchen operations, including prep, production, and execution of cafe and in-person dining., • Support leading the BOH team through service on the line and/or expediting., • Ensuring all food meets established standards for taste, presentation, portioning, and timing., • Managing daily prep lists, production schedules, and pars to ensure readiness for service and smooth transitions through services., • Close collaboration with Executive Chef regarding training, mentoring, and developing kitchen staff, with a focus on skill-building, consistency, and accountability., • Maintaining organization, cleanliness, and food safety standards in accordance with DOH and internal SOPs., • Collaborating with the Chef-Owner and Executive Chef on menu execution, seasonal changes, and recipe refinement., • Monitoring product usage, minimizing waste, and communicating ordering needs or shortages., • Supporting inventory, receiving, and proper storage of products., • Assisting in documentation, systems refinement, and continuous improvement of kitchen processes., • Embracing the entrepreneurial mindset needed for a new restaurant, willing to take on new and different tasks as challenges arise. QUALIFICATIONS Experience & Skills • 5+ years of professional kitchen experience required, with at least 2 years in a Sous Chef role in a high-volume, scratch-cooking environment., • Advanced culinary technique, including mastery of diverse cooking methods, preservation, and high-level plating., • Strong understanding of culinary math including food cost percentages, labor management, and inventory turnover., • Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new digital management tools and internal communication platforms., • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to provide clear directives and feedback., • Current Food Protection Certificate (ServeSafe or equivalent) is required., • Experience in a restaurant opening is a huge plus!
