Job Description Full-time, Hybrid $32.98/Hour The Training Specialist for Motivational Interviewing and Child Welfare Casework, under the supervision of the Training Supervisors, will split their time equally between two different training projects, with a focus on Motivational Interviewing (MI) and Child Welfare (CW) training. Position Overview Grade(s): 9-12 The Reading Specialist is a literacy leader responsible for implementing a comprehensive literacy program at the assigned school by being a teacher model, supporting, and guiding teachers in best practices for literacy instruction. Duties/Responsibilities Curriculum Development and Instruction • Provide direct instruction in the areas of reading and writing for identified groups and individual students, with an emphasis on emergent, beginning, and transitional readers., • Responsible for providing direct instruction to students, individually, in small groups, or in full groups, to enable students to develop literacy skills., • Use data to inform instructional decisions., • Provide students daily feedback on mastery performance in character and academics and plan for individual learning needs., • Facilitate strong reading instructional strategies through:, • Co-teaching to model reading instruction., • Observing and providing feedback., • Identify literature for use in all content areas in support of the curriculum., • Provide curriculum support and training for teachers., • Be a model of teacher techniques in a variety of settings (whole group and small group) and provide follow-up support., • In collaboration with school and regional leadership, select tier 2 instructional materials to meet student needs., • Supports School Leadership with organizational wide literacy practices and policies., • Collaborate with and coach teachers on using assessment data to plan instruction; analyze school literacy data and plan for future literacy needs., • Provide ongoing follow-up and support in the use of assessment tools., • Assess students using a variety of measures to determine appropriate placement and specific instructional needs., • Monitor performance metrics and mechanisms to track needs, trends, the effectiveness of policies and programs, and progress toward accomplishing objectives., • Establish and maintain strong communication lines with all families and share progress., • Be available for open houses, family-teacher conferences, and other events involving families., • Make self available to students, families, and other staff members., • Perform other duties as outlined by the Principal., • Committed to furthering anti-racism, equity, and racial justice in all our efforts, and expect all our stakeholders to participate in this work so that we can create a future without limits for our students together., • Complies with all charter, federal, state, and local laws and regulations, including the NYS Department of Education, Department of Health, and NYS Office of Children and Family Services., • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited College or University with a concentration in English or related fields of study required., • Master’s degree in reading instruction is strongly preferred., • Valid NYS Teaching Licensure or willingness to pursue state certification required., • Minimum of four (4) years of experience as an English or ELA school educator, preferably in a charter or public school environment., • Prior experience working in schools and urban communities is preferred but not required., • Aptitude to create and work within an inclusive environment that honors and supports a diversity of backgrounds and perspectives. KIPP Capital Region will evaluate and determine the step/level a new hire will be placed within our teacher salary scale at point of hire.
