Serco is hiring an Experienced Engineering Technician to be part of a dynamic team supporting our US. Navy located in the heart of Newport News, VA. You will be part of a team that works closely with the customer and other Serco team members to deliver quality work performed on-board U.S. Naval Ships located in the beautiful surroundings of Newport News, Virginia. Serco supports our US Naval Ships with successful and safe work for our Navy customer by providing cabling, equipment, and C5ISR system installations for our Navy and the Military. You will join an active team to perform general manual labor to support this critical mission. In this role, you will: \n • Perform troubleshooting and correct malfunctions.\n, • Conduct various tests or experiments, which may require minor modifications in test setups or procedures as well as subjective judgments in measurement; selects, sets up, and operates standard test equipment and records test data. \n, • Performs electrical work on ships, boats, and marine equipment. \n, • Repair electrical wiring, restoring the electrical connection to power a ship's engine and navigation systems, and securing work areas aboard vessels to avoid electrical shock.\n, • Gather and maintain specified records of engineering data such as tests, drawings, etc.; performs computations by substituting numbers in specified formulas; plots data and draws simple curves and graphs.\n, • Perform routine tasks or tests such as tensile or hardness tests; operates and adjusts simple test equipment; records test data.\n\n GET TO KNOW YOUR RECRUITER! Qualifications To be successful in this role, you will have: \n • A High School Diploma or equivalent.\n, • The ability to obtain and maintain and active DoD Secret Clearance.\n, • The ability to obtain and gain access to shipyards (NAVSTA & DBIDS), undergo a background investigation and pass a drug screening\n, • The ability to obtain an OSHA 10 certification\n, • The ability to get respirator qualified and wear PPE throughout the work shift.\n, • 5 years of experience in electrical work in a related field and/or shipboard.\n, • Experience managing a crew of various trades. (6-10 people)\n, • A combination of 5 years of experience in the following areas:\n, • Competency attaching fiber optic, RJ-45, DB type connectors\n, • Read drawings (Tradesman level)\n, • QCI instruct of lower techs\n, • Implement safety program/SRAR Qual/CP\n, • Prelim QA testing, MCTs, space closeouts\n, • Multipin competent\n, • Elec testing reqs, i.e. ground checks, RSPT testing\n, • Layout & cutting of electrical enclosures, electrical hook-ups & multiple meter knowledge\n, • Reading drawings (Apprentice level)\n, • Band/pack MCTs/RISE\n, • Layout & mount small equipment as needed\n, • Basic knowledge of tools, QA documents, meter\n, • Safety: Actively participates in safety surveillances & walk-thrus\n\n\n, • Familiarization with NAVSEA, standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field of electrical repair, fabrication, and installation\n, • The ability to work in high heat spaces, climb shipyard dry dock stairs/ladders, work in kneeling position for layout of cable runs under false decking, lift up to 50 pounds with 80% of work requiring carrying, pushing, and/or pulling up to 40 pounds for majority of shift while being in a standing, crouching, or walking position.\n, • Attention to safety, which is critical\n, • An active DoD Secret clearance\n, • An OSHA Certification\n Military Veterans and Spouses encouraged to apply!
