Job Description Classification: Fulltime, Exempt Salary Range: $123,000-$174,501 Reports to: Board of Trustees Contracted time: 12 months- 214 days THE CHARACTERISTICS The candidates must have the background, skills and abilities essential for excellence in educational leadership of a highly diverse independent charter school. • A Collaborative Leader who has the proven ability to build trust, promote a positive school climate and foster productive respectful relationships. Knows and actively supports each school board member and his or her self in performing their appropriate roles in charter school governance and activities. The applicant holds a deep understanding of the teaching/learning process and promotes the importance of providing a safe and caring school environment, which addresses the social/emotional, college/career learning needs of all students. Must have a passion for and a working knowledge of how technology can be used as an instructional tool to motivate and engage students., • The next leader for Tubman must have knowledge of special education and other academic support programs in order to assure all students have successful learning experiences, ensure each student has equitable access to effective teachers, learning opportunities, academic and social support, and other resources necessary for success, enable school-wide conversations through small and large PLC’s about standards for curriculum, instruction, assessment, and data on student learning based on research and best practices, and ensure that the ideas developed are integrated within and across grade levels in the school’s curriculum and instructional approaches, hold all staff accountable for instructional practice that is intellectually challenging, authentic to student experience, recognizes student strengths, and is differentiated., • This person will be a leader who encourages a sense of shared responsibility among all stakeholders regarding success in student learning and is able to build strong coalitions and partnerships with all segments of the communities, including business, local government agencies, and institutions of higher education. This individual is adaptable, experienced, and well-versed in all aspects of charter school leadership, including operations, funding, and the petition process. The ideal candidate demonstrates fiscal responsibility and ensures an open, transparent budgeting process through the effective use of the LCAP, with a focus on serving at-risk students, enhancing technology infrastructure, and addressing facility improvements, construction, and building rehabilitation needs. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Works onsite at the direction of the Board of Trustees and oversees all aspects of the charter school, including academics, governance, operations, communications, and community engagement. Collaborates closely with the CEO to ensure clear and effective communication with the San Diego Unified School District and the Board. Works strategically with the CEO on budget development, financial management, and the overall fiscal health of the school. • Ensure the success of academic programs and adherence to charter school regulations., • Manage a team of employees, including school administrators and directors., • Develop and implement programs that distinguish the school., • Maintain a strong presence and positive relationships with families and the community., • Uphold legal and ethical standards within the organization., • Make strategic decisions and ensure execution of board-approved initiatives., • Manage day-to-day operations and activities., • Stay current on educational best practices and charter school operations., • Solve problems proactively and make sound decisions., • Handle confidential information discreetly., • Meet deadlines and achieve performance goals in a fast-paced environment., • Implement the mission, vision and educational program of the school, • Accountable for student achievement, assessment, and data analysis, • Recruit, select, hire, manage, evaluate and develop a team of teachers and support personnel, • Manage diversity in personnel, • Represent the school in all public and community forums, • Provide professional development or oversee the leading of professional development/learning communities, • Implement discipline policies and supervision of students, • Manage and ensure the Safety Plan, • Oversee all aspects of effective facilities management, • Provide regular reports to the HTVCS Governance Board, • Oversees charter authorization and renewal processes with a focus on continuous process improvement and implementation of best practices., • Ability to transport students or personnel to events or meetings., • Strong leadership and organizational skills., • Proven ability to manage and inspire a team., • Excellent decision-making and problem-solving skills., • Effective communication and interpersonal skills., • Ability to work independently and as part of a team., • Commitment to continuous improvement and achieving high standards., • Up-to-date knowledge of educational best practices and charter school operations. QUALIFICATIONS • Possession of a valid administrative credential issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) Required, • Preferred experience in special education administration or program oversight, with knowledge of special education laws, policies, and compliance requirements (IDEA, Section 504, ADA), • Preferred experience with behavior-based Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) implementation within a charter school setting., • Minimum of 3-5 years of successful experience in as a principal, assistant principal, coordinator or other school leadership position within a school setting,, • Experience in California Charter Schools required, • Track record in successful partnership building with the community preferred; fundraising and marketing experience a plus., • Strong understanding of charter school law and governance, • A valid California Drivers License BENEFITS • HMO/PPO Medical option, • Beam Dental, • MetLife Vision, • Life Insurance, • PERS or STRS retirement PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL ELEMENTS Must be able to hear, speak and see, and possess cognitive and physical abilities necessary to: exchange information; utilize a computer; read, prepare, and proofread written materials; and provide instruction. Must be able to sit and stand for extended periods of time. Must have dexterity of hands and fingers needed to operate a computer keyboard and other office equipment. May have occasional exposure to irate parents, staff, and public and private representatives. The position occasionally kneels, bends, stoops, reaches, pushes and pulls drawers to retrieve and file information, and lifts and carries objects that typically weigh less than 20 pounds. HAZARDS: Potential exposure to communicable diseases and contact with blood and other body fluids. Potential exposure to physical injury from aggressive behavior.
