Job Description Chief Operating Officer (COO) – Operations Focused Location: Elmsford, NY (Greater NYC area) Compensation: $200,000–$250,000+ base + bonus and future equity potential Relocation: Available for the right candidate Reports To: President and Executive Team About The Company Fast-growing building materials and professional supply distributors in the Northeast, with over 50 branch locations across the U.S. and Canada — and still expanding. Family-owned and operated since day one, we’ve built our success through hard work, humility, and relentless customer focus. We’re now scaling from $250M to $500M in the next seven years, fueled by new markets, new products, and a mix of organic and acquisition-based growth. We need an operator who can turn our growth momentum into repeatable systems and scalable processes — not from behind a desk, but by being in the field, sleeves rolled up, getting it done. The Role This is not a “traditional” COO role. It’s a hands-on operations leadership position for someone who thrives in the field — visiting branches, walking the yards, talking to drivers, and turning operational chaos into clarity. You’ll own the operational heartbeat of the company: logistics, distribution, fleet, facilities, and process discipline across 60+ locations. You’ll start by learning the business firsthand, then build and document the playbook for how it should run at scale. Key Responsibilities Operational Leadership • Oversee and optimize day-to-day operations across 60+ branches, ensuring consistency and accountability., • Develop, implement, and enforce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) — gather best practices from the field, document, train, and roll out., • Establish operational KPIs (inventory turns, stockouts, delivery metrics, fleet utilization, branch profitability, etc.) in partnership with Regional Managers., • Own the expense side of the P drive cost control, productivity, and margin improvement across all branches., • Work hand-in-hand with Regional and Branch Managers to align execution, communication, and accountability., • Lead with humility — earn trust by listening first, acting second., • Maintain professionalism and appropriate distance while fostering strong working relationships., • Ensure all facilities are properly maintained, safe, and operationally efficient., • Conduct operational audits and branch visits (initially 50–70% travel)., • Identify inefficiencies, document findings, and build scalable, data-driven solutions., • Partner with leadership to define and execute the operational roadmap to $500M+ revenue. What We’re Looking For • 10–15+ years of operational leadership in distribution, logistics, or multi-location businesses (building materials, plumbing, electrical, or industrial supply ideal)., • Proven experience developing SOPs, scaling multi-site operations, and leading teams through process alignment., • Strong background in fleet management, warehousing, inventory, and logistics., • Hands-on, field-driven leader — not a “PowerPoint COO.”, • Humble, grounded, professional, and respected by the workforce., • Experience with P&L management and KPI creation., • Preferably from companies like Home Depot, Grainger, Fastenal, Ferguson, SiteOne, Heritage Landscape, or similar., • Comfortable working in a family-owned, fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment., • Willing and able to travel regularly (up to 50%, higher initially)., • Must be based in or willing to relocate to New York / Northeast region. Compensation & Growth • Base Salary: $200K–$250K+, depending on experience, • Bonus: Performance-based incentive plan, • Equity: Future participation opportunity as the company approaches $350M+ revenue, • Full benefits package included "Why" To Get Excited About: This is a rare opportunity to build the operational backbone of a high-growth, family-run distribution company scaling toward a half-billion in revenue. If you’re looking for a seat where your decisions directly move the needle — and you don’t mind grease under your fingernails along the way — we’d like to meet you.
