Job DescriptionOverview:Reporting to the Controller, the Accountant I is a vital part of the Office of Finance and Administration Team and a collaborative partner in meeting various institutional goals and objectives. Additionally, the Accountant I will demonstrate, by example, a clear commitment to providing excellent customer service. Moreover, the Accountant I ensures practical administrative support for students, faculty, and staff on the campus. Job dutiesThe Accountant II will perform the following duties and responsibilities: Accounts Payable • Process vendor invoices and employee reimbursements in accordance with College policies and procedures, • Verify accuracy of payment requests, ensure proper approvals, and maintain supporting documentation, • Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner, • Prepare and issue payments via check, ACH, or other approved methods, • Maintain vendor files and ensure compliance with IRS 1099 reporting requirementsPayroll Processing, • Accurately process payroll for Adjunct Faculty and Federal Work Study students on a biweekly and semi-monthly basis, • Review and validate timesheets, contracts, and payroll authorizations, • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and institutional payroll regulations, • Coordinate with HR and Financial Aid to verify employment eligibility and funding sources, • Maintain payroll records and assist with year-end reporting (e.g., W-2, 941, etc.)General Accounting Support, • Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities related to AP, P-Cards, and payroll, • Support audits by preparing schedules and providing documentation as requested, • Contribute to process improvements and internal control enhancements, • Perform other duties as assignedMinimum QualificationsThe Accountant I must have the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:, • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in accounting, business, or a related field required, • Must have at least 2 years of experience in general ledger accounting., • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, with intermediate proficiency in Excel, integrated financial systems, and/or other types of record management systems, • Communicate effectively (verbal and written) with all management levels within the Institution as well as key individuals in other organizations/agencies to provide maximum support to students, faculty, and others being served by the Institution, • Knowledge of accounting, budgeting, general business programs, policies, and procedures is required to ensure effective/efficient use and distribution of financial and other resources, • Knowledge, understanding, and business application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Uniform Guidance, • Ability to respond effectively to numerous and varied situations, analyze issues, and respond quickly and correctly to resolve problems and support the needs of students, faculty, staff, and others on the Institution, • Ability to work independently and effectively manage multiple projects, • Analytical abilities required in presenting budget status summaries/reports and recommending alternatives to improve services for students, faculty, & staff, and to enhance campus facilities, • Knowledge of other Institution departments and personnel required to ensure support for the Institution and effective coordination with other external resources, as necessary, • Must be a "team player" with the desire to promote the entire Institution and all its programs through energetic and effective coordination with applicable Institution departments and appropriate external organizations and agencies
