Job Description Shipping and Receiving Clerk - 1st Shift - $22/hr - El Cajon, CA Job Description This open-ended contract role supports the shipping and receiving department in a busy manufacturing environment. You will unload and route materials, operate forklifts and company vehicles, prepare shipments, maintain accurate documentation, and use a computer for shipping labels and tracking parts. Over time, there is potential for the role to transition into a dedicated driving position. Responsibilities • Unload materials, parts, supplies, tools, and equipment from carriers and company vehicles in a safe and efficient manner., • Route incoming items to the proper destinations within the plant and segregate discrepant items or shipments, processing them according to standard procedures., • Identify materials, parts, tools, and items by properly marking, tagging, and coding them for accurate tracking., • Operate forklifts and company trucks up to 1½ tons to move materials and make pickups and deliveries in local and Los Angeles areas., • Count, package, and protect parts and tooling for shipment, ensuring items are properly prepared to prevent damage., • Construct pallets and crates for the secure shipment of items as needed., • Check the loading and unloading of equipment and parts for safety, ensuring loads are balanced and securely stretch-wrapped and/or strapped to prevent damage or loss., • Inspect lift trucks and company vehicles, including tires, brakes, lights, fuel, water, oil levels, and cleanliness of interiors and exteriors, and promptly notify a supervisor of any needed repairs or maintenance., • Handle all required paperwork, verifying pickup and delivery orders by checking descriptions, part and tool numbers, and quantities., • Maintain accurate computer logs and records for shipping, receiving, and inventory tracking., • Collaborate effectively with team members and follow directions from the Shop Supervisor to support department goals., • Perform inventory control tasks, including accurate counting and verification of parts and materials., • Work overtime when required to meet production and shipping schedules., • Minimum two (2) years of experience in a manufacturing shipping and receiving environment preferred., • Proven experience in shipping, receiving, and general warehouse operations., • Proficiency in operating forklifts safely in a manufacturing or warehouse setting., • Experience with truck handling and driving company vehicles for local deliveries., • Ability to use a computer for generating shipping labels, tracking parts, and maintaining logs and records., • Strong counting skills with the ability to count parts and materials accurately., • Valid California driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle record., • Ability to safely operate all company vehicles in accordance with company policies and traffic regulations., • Capability to follow instructions from a Shop Supervisor and work cooperatively with others., • Ability to read and write English at a level required to understand work instructions, complete paperwork, and maintain records., • Experience with inventory control processes in a manufacturing or warehouse environment., • History in packaging and preparing parts and tooling for shipment, including building pallets and crates., • Familiarity with shipping documentation and verification of part and tool numbers and quantities., • Comfort working in a hot, loud manufacturing environment., • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety when loading, unloading, and securing materials., • Ability to maintain vehicle cleanliness and conduct basic equipment checks, reporting maintenance needs promptly. You will join a hands-on, fast-paced manufacturing operation where your contributions directly support production and customer delivery. The role offers variety in day-to-day tasks, from forklift operation and inventory control to local driving and shipment preparation. Work Environment This position is based in a hot, loud manufacturing facility located in El Cajon, working within the shipping and receiving department and warehouse areas. You will regularly operate forklifts, lift trucks, and company vehicles up to 1½ tons, and work around heavy equipment and production machinery. The role involves frequent loading and unloading of materials, building pallets and crates, and moving parts throughout the plant. You will use computers and related systems to create shipping labels, track parts, and maintain records. The schedule may require overtime to meet shipping deadlines and production demands. Work attire should be practical and suitable for a manufacturing and warehouse setting, with appropriate safety gear as required. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of El Cajon, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr.
