The Senior Director, Legal at Maverick Power is a strategic, hands-on legal leader responsible for overseeing all legal matters for a rapidly growing organization. This role serves as a trusted advisor to the CEO and Senior Leadership Team, providing practical, business-focused legal guidance while building scalable legal frameworks, managing risk, and supporting the company’s growth across commercial, technology, employment, and intellectual property matters. Key Responsibilities: • Legal Strategy & Executive Partnership, • Serve as a strategic advisor to the CEO and Senior Leadership Team on legal risk, compliance, and business strategy., • Provide clear, pragmatic legal guidance that balances risk management with business objectives in a fast-paced, growth environment., • Help build scalable legal frameworks, policies, and governance practices to support company growth., • Contracts & Commercial Negotiation, • Lead all aspects of contract strategy, drafting, review, and negotiation across the organization, including customer, vendor, partnership, and employment agreements., • Partner closely with Sales, Finance, HR, IT, and Operations to support complex commercial negotiations and deal structures., • Establish contract standards, templates, and approval processes to improve efficiency and consistency while mitigating risk., • Oversee contract lifecycle management and ensure compliance with contractual obligations., • Technology, IT & AI, • Provide legal leadership for IT systems, software licensing, SaaS, cloud services, cybersecurity, and data privacy matters., • Advise on the responsible development, deployment, and use of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and automation technologies., • Partner with IT, Product, and Data teams to support AI initiatives, technology integrations, and vendor relationships., • Monitor and interpret evolving laws and regulations related to AI, data protection, cybersecurity, and emerging technologies., • Help establish governance frameworks and risk assessments for technology and AI-enabled solutions., • Intellectual Property, • Develop and execute the company’s intellectual property strategy, including trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, and patents (as applicable)., • Partner with business and technical leaders to identify, protect, and leverage intellectual property assets., • Manage IP filings, enforcement, and disputes in coordination with external counsel., • Labor & Enforcement Law, • Serve as the primary legal advisor on labor and employment matters, including employee relations, wage and hour compliance, leave administration, investigations, and workforce restructuring., • Partner closely with HR to ensure employment practices, policies, and programs comply with applicable laws., • Support employment-related disputes, litigation, and regulatory matters., • Compliance & Risk Management, • Ensure all legal, regulatory, and compliance requirements are met across the organization., • Identify and proactively manage legal and regulatory risks., • Oversee relationships with outside counsel and manage legal spend., • Support litigation management, dispute resolution, and regulatory inquiries., • Leadership & Team Development, • Build, lead, and develop the legal function, including internal team members and external partners., • Foster a collaborative, solutions-oriented legal culture that supports business growth., • Labor & Enforcement Law, • Serve as the primary legal advisor on labor and employment matters, including employee relations, wage and hour compliance, leave administration, investigations, and workforce restructuring., • Partner closely with HR to ensure employment practices, policies, and programs comply with applicable laws., • Support employment-related disputes, litigation, and regulatory matters., • Compliance & Risk Management, • Ensure all legal, regulatory, and compliance requirements are met across the organization., • Identify and proactively manage legal and regulatory risks., • Oversee relationships with outside counsel and manage legal spend., • Support litigation management, dispute resolution, and regulatory inquiries., • Leadership & Team Development, • Build, lead, and develop the legal function, including internal team members and external partners., • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school, admitted to practice law in Texas and in good standing., • Minimum of 10 years of progressive legal experience in in-house and/or relevant law firm roles., • Deep expertise in commercial contracts, intellectual property, and labor and employment law., • Experience advising on technology, IT systems, data privacy, cybersecurity, and AI-related matters., • Proven ability to partner effectively with executive leadership in a growth-stage environment., • Strong business acumen with a practical, risk-balanced approach to legal decision-making., • Experience building or scaling legal policies, processes, or teams., • Prior experience in manufacturing, energy, or industrial environments., • Prolonged periods standing on the manufacturing floor and sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
