Job Description Water Quality & Environmental Technician — $20/hr + ~20 hrs OT Weekly (Part-Time Contract) Location: Houston Metroplex & Statewide (Texas) Start Date: January 19, 2026 Duration: 5-month assignment (or until project completion) Schedule: Part-time with consistent overtime opportunities Make a Real Impact on Community Water Safety This is a hands-on, field-based opportunity for a detail-oriented technician who wants to play a direct role in protecting public health and supporting environmental compliance efforts across Texas. You’ll work on state- and federally mandated water quality programs, performing inspections, collecting critical data, and supporting drinking water compliance initiatives for municipalities and community water systems. If you enjoy working outdoors, traveling to diverse locations, and contributing to meaningful infrastructure and environmental projects, this role offers both purpose and consistent overtime potential. What You’ll Do Primary Responsibilities (≈65%) • Prepare field gear, tools, and equipment for daily assignments, • Travel safely to and between project sites throughout the Houston area and across Texas, • Locate water meter boxes and expose buried service lines using hand tools, • Perform magnetic and scratch tests to identify pipe materials (PVC, PEX, copper, galvanized, lead, etc.), • Collect GPS coordinates and GIS data following established scientific protocols, • Photograph service lines and accurately record findings using a tablet-based data collection system, • Restore investigation sites to pre-inspection conditions, • Conduct quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) checks on collected data, • Prepare water sampling kits and field supplies for compliance events, • Collect drinking water samples for state and federal regulatory programs, • Travel to remote locations, including overnight stays when required, • Assist with data entry and documentation from sampling events, • Review sampling paperwork for accuracy and compliance, • Gain familiarity with drinking water regulations and field protocols, • Support additional project needs as assigned What We’re Looking For • Bachelor’s degree, college coursework, or GED required, • Prior environmental consulting, fieldwork, or industry experience is a plus, • Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions, • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs of field equipment, • Willingness to work weekends, holidays, extended hours, and overnight travel when required, • Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy, • Ability to work independently while remaining a collaborative team member, • Strong communication and technical documentation skills, • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, and Google Earth, • Ability to prioritize tasks, meet tight deadlines, and adapt to changing field conditions, • Valid judgment and decision-making skills in fast-paced environments Why This Role Stands Out • Competitive hourly pay plus significant overtime, • Hands-on field experience supporting high-impact environmental and water safety projects, • Exposure to TCEQ and EPA compliance programs, • Opportunity to work across multiple Texas communities and municipalities, • Ideal for early-career environmental professionals or those seeking practical field experience TCWGlobal is an equal opportunity employer.
