Job DescriptionJob Title: Facilities TechnicianJob Description The Facilities Technician maintains a safe, clean, and fully functional learning environment across a K–12 school campus. This role performs preventive maintenance, repairs, inspections, and general upkeep of buildings and grounds to support a welcoming and well-maintained educational setting. Responsibilities • Perform routine maintenance and repair work on school facilities, including classrooms, offices, gymnasiums, cafeterias, and common areas., • Conduct preventive maintenance on HVAC systems, plumbing, electrical components, lighting, doors, and building equipment to minimize breakdowns and extend equipment life., • Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergency repairs to reduce downtime and ensure safety., • Inspect campus buildings and grounds regularly to identify safety hazards, maintenance needs, and repair priorities., • Set up and tear down classrooms, chapel services, athletic events, and school functions, including furniture, equipment, and temporary fixtures., • Assist with painting, carpentry, minor drywall and sheetrock repairs, ceiling tile replacement, furniture assembly, and general handyman tasks., • Maintain outdoor areas such as walkways, playgrounds, parking lots, and landscaping to keep the campus clean, safe, and presentable., • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and school policies when performing maintenance, using equipment, and working in occupied areas., • Monitor, organize, and maintain maintenance supplies, tools, and equipment to ensure they are available, safe, and in good working order., • Use work order management systems to receive, prioritize, document, and complete maintenance tasks efficiently., • Troubleshoot and repair building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, lighting (including ballasts), and kitchen appliances., • Perform cleaning and basic upkeep tasks as needed to support a tidy and orderly environment., • Manage time effectively to complete preventive maintenance (PMs) and corrective work within required timelines., • Participate in after-hours or weekend support for special events or urgent maintenance needs when required., • Foster positive, service-oriented relationships with students, staff, parents, and visitors while contributing to a respectful and supportive campus community.Essential Skills, • At least 2 years of experience in facilities, building maintenance, or handyman work., • Knowledge of HVAC systems, including basic HVAC maintenance and troubleshooting., • Knowledge of basic plumbing repair, including fixtures, leaks, and minor piping issues., • Knowledge of electrical systems, including lighting, ballasts, and basic electrical troubleshooting., • Carpentry skills for repairs and installations, including doors, trim, and minor structural elements., • Experience with drywall and sheetrock repair, including patching and finishing., • Ability to perform painting tasks with attention to quality and detail., • Ability to install and maintain ceiling tiles and other interior finishes., • Experience maintaining and repairing kitchen appliances and building equipment., • Ability to troubleshoot and complete repairs independently with minimal supervision., • Experience using hand and power tools safely and effectively., • Familiarity with work order management systems for tracking and completing maintenance tasks., • Strong time management skills to handle inspections, preventive maintenance, and reactive repairs in a fast-paced environment., • Strong communication and customer service skills when interacting with students, staff, and visitors., • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding tasks., • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions., • High school diploma or GED., • Valid driver’s license preferred.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Experience performing building repairs and troubleshooting across multiple trades (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and general building systems)., • Background in preventive maintenance programs, including scheduling and completing PMs on equipment and building systems., • Experience working in an educational or campus environment is beneficial., • Demonstrated dependability and strong sense of responsibility in maintaining facilities., • Service-oriented mindset with a focus on supporting students, faculty, staff, and visitors., • Comfort working in a fast-paced setting with changing priorities and multiple concurrent tasks.Why Work Here? Work Environment This role is based on an active K–12 school campus serving students from kindergarten through high school. You will work across classrooms, offices, gymnasiums, cafeterias, common areas, playgrounds, parking lots, and landscaped grounds. The schedule runs from approximately 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with the possibility of 10-hour days when overtime is required. The pace is fast, with frequent requests and a steady flow of preventive and corrective maintenance tasks. You will regularly use hand tools, power tools, ladders, and building systems such as HVAC, plumbing, electrical, lighting, and kitchen equipment. Work takes place both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions, and you may occasionally provide support during evenings or weekends for special events. Attire should be practical, professional, and appropriate for a maintenance role, allowing safe use of tools and equipment and safe movement throughout the campus.
