The Lab Operations Manager will focus on strategic procurement, inventory systems, vendor partnerships, safety protocols, and regulatory compliance. Reporting to the AD, Research Operations, this individual will serve as a critical operational leader and bridge between scientific teams, operations, finance, and suppliers—ensuring the lab environment is resourced, compliant, and optimized for cutting-edge research and programs. The ideal candidate brings a blend of scientific understanding and operational expertise, with a strong track record in driving continuous improvement, developing standard operating procedures (SOPs), and leveraging data for strategic decisions. Procurement & Vendor Management • Manage end-to-end procurement of reagents, consumables, chemicals, equipment, and specialty supplies., • Evaluate and onboard new vendors, ensuring scientific compatibility and compliance with internal policies. Negotiate vendor contracts to optimize cost, lead time, and service quality. Collaborate with Finance and Procurement teams to maintain budget alignment and approval workflows., • Monitor and report on vendor KPIs (e.g., delivery timeliness, quality issues, pricing trends), and drive corrective actions where needed., • Develop and manage a robust inventory control system for reagents, consumables, cell lines, plasmids, kits, and other lab materials. Forecast usage, set reorder points, plan buffer stock, and minimize product expiration or overstock., • Lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of SOPs for inventory handling, stock control, access, and disposal protocols., • Conduct scheduled inventory audits and resolve variances through root cause analysis., • Oversee cold storage operations (–80°ree;C, –20°ree;C, liquid nitrogen, cold rooms), including tracking, access, and safety protocols., • Coordinate and plan onboarding safety programs for new hires, ensuring timely integration into lab safety, EH&S, and compliance frameworks. Monitor and reinforce adherence to environmental, health, and safety (EH&S) regulations across lab operations. Sit on the company's cross-functional safety committee., • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across procurement, inventory, and workflows., • Provide metrics reports and dashboards covering spend analysis, usage trends, procurement performance, and operational KPIs. Identify and implement opportunities for cost savings, vendor consolidation, or process automation. What you'll need to be successful: • Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences, Chemistry, Engineering, or related field., • 9+ years of experience in lab operations, inventory and vendor management, and procurement in biotech, pharma, or academic research settings., • Excellent data analysis and reporting, organizational and communication skills with cross-functional teams., • Foundational knowledge of EH&S lab standards, hazardous materials handling, and cold-chain logistics., • Solid understanding of international shipping regulations, IATA standards, and customs coordination., • Preferred: Advanced degree. Experience in drug discovery environments. Familiarity with lab informatics systems and their integration.
