Essential Job Summary:: Our Yellow Iron Diesel Mechanics perform inspection, diagnosis, preventative maintenance, and repair of electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake and air systems on vehicles and equipment, primarily including yellow iron machinery, diesel heavy trucks and engines. The Technician or Mechanic is not only responsible for understanding maintenance and breakdown needs and initiating/ assigning necessary repairs, but also must be able to operate the machinery being repaired. This position involves the inspection of materials received at the Transfer Station, and includes determining and preventing the disposal of unauthorized, disallowed and/or incompatible materials at the Transfer Station. The Operations Supervisor oversees the operations of the tipping areas. The work may also include the operation of various plant equipment, as well as participating in the work of the crew. The Operations Supervisor works under the direct supervision of the Director of Post Collections. Direct supervision is exercised over the work of Equipment Operators, Laborers, and Scale Operators. The Operations Supervisor is responsible for directing, planning and assigning the work of employees involved in these positions. Provides input into termination, compensation and promotion decisions, • Formulates both short-term and long-term goals and action plans in conjunction with the Director of Post Collections., • Participates in regular P&L reviews to ensure that budgets are met; develops and implements programs for optimal equipment utilization, equipment maintenance and labor and material costs, • Works with functional groups to resolve employee relations and labor relations issues, • Must be able to work a changing shift schedule to oversee all facets of the operations when they are occurring.
