Job DescriptionJob Title: Project Engineer Job Description The Project Engineer supports the successful delivery of complex construction projects by assisting in planning, coordination, and execution from inception through completion. Reporting to the Project Director and Director of Operations, with matrixed supervision from the Project Manager, this role helps oversee project engineers and superintendents while driving schedule, cost, quality, and client satisfaction. The Project Engineer contributes to project management activities, ensures compliance with contractual and technical requirements, and supports the achievement of overall management and financial objectives. Responsibilities • Assist the Project Manager in planning, directing, and completing assigned construction projects while supporting overall project management objectives., • Support the Project Manager in supervising the activities of Project Engineers, Construction Managers, and Site Superintendents on assigned projects., • Coordinate all contractual requirements, design drawings, and project specifications to ensure alignment with project goals and compliance standards., • Manage project coordination activities, ensuring effective communication and collaboration among internal teams, subcontractors, and stakeholders., • Assist in the procurement of subcontracts and purchase orders, ensuring timely and accurate documentation and alignment with project budgets., • Support the preparation and management of construction billings and cash flow projections to maintain financial control and transparency., • Perform job cost analysis to monitor budget performance, identify variances, and support corrective actions as needed., • Assist with project schedule analysis and updates, working closely with the project team to track progress and adjust timelines., • Prepare and maintain meeting minutes and project documentation to ensure clear records of decisions, actions, and responsibilities., • Generate monthly project reports summarizing progress, risks, cost performance, and schedule status for stakeholders., • Support the preparation and tracking of change management reports, including change orders and associated documentation., • Assist with application for payment verification to confirm accuracy and compliance with contract terms., • Support contract administration activities, ensuring adherence to contractual obligations and proper documentation of changes and claims., • Manage punch-list activities by coordinating completion of outstanding items and verifying resolution prior to project closeout., • Participate in warranty review processes and support the management of warranty-related issues after project completion., • Assist in the development and maintenance of as-built documentation to accurately reflect final constructed conditions., • Coordinate resources across disciplines to achieve project goals related to scope, schedule, cost, and quality., • Manage client interactions on assigned projects, fostering positive relationships and promoting client satisfaction., • Generate clear scopes of work and communicate them effectively to project team members and stakeholders., • Assist the Procurement Manager with preparation of bid package documentation, pre-bid meetings and walkthroughs, bid reviews, and coordination of project schedules., • Work closely with the Construction Manager and Site Superintendent to monitor performance against target schedules and implement corrective actions for nonconformances., • Monitor and report project costs, including committed values, forecast-to-commit, allowances for growth, and actual expenditures., • Collaborate with Construction Managers and Superintendents to ensure that field events, conditions, exceptions, and issues are accurately reflected in cost reports., • Work with Project Services to manage project costs, financial exposures, and risk-related factors throughout the project lifecycle., • Assist with oversight of site safety on assigned projects, coordinating with Construction Managers, Superintendents, and safety resources, including subconsultants, to establish and maintain site safety programs., • Monitor site safety performance, identify nonconformances, and support corrective actions to maintain a safe working environment., • Contribute to continuous improvement efforts by identifying opportunities to enhance processes, coordination, and project delivery., • Perform other duties as assigned to support successful project execution and organizational objectives.Essential Skills, • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or a related discipline, or an equivalent technical degree., • 4–6 years of experience in engineering, project delivery, or a related discipline., • Demonstrated experience in project management and project coordination within construction or technically complex facilities., • Strong understanding of construction management principles, including scheduling, cost control, and quality management., • Experience with procurement of subcontracts and purchase orders in a construction or engineering environment., • Ability to support construction billings, cash flow projections, and job cost analysis., • Proficiency in project schedule analysis and updates, including tracking progress and implementing adjustments., • Ability to prepare and maintain project documentation such as meeting minutes, reports, and change management records., • Experience with contract administration, including applications for payment and change order processes., • Ability to manage punch-list activities and support project closeout and warranty review., • Strong organizational skills with the ability to coordinate multiple tasks, stakeholders, and deadlines., • Effective communication skills for interacting with clients, internal teams, subcontractors, and other stakeholders., • Capability to coordinate resources and support team performance to achieve project goals., • Commitment to safety and ability to support the implementation and monitoring of site safety programs., • Physical ability to stand, sit, and walk for prolonged periods., • Physical ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl as required in a construction environment., • Ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 15 pounds., • Ability to travel and commute on a daily or routine basis as required by project assignments., • Access to reliable transportation to visit client sites and construction locations.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Process piping experience is preferred and considered a strong asset., • Experience working on technically complex facilities such as process, packaging, manufacturing, or research environments., • Familiarity with LEAN project delivery methodologies and project controls is beneficial., • Exposure to strategic master planning, energy conservation management, or operations/logistics strategy and planning is advantageous., • Experience supporting or working within program and project management frameworks for large or multi-phase projects., • Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including architecture, engineering, procurement, construction management, commissioning, qualification, and validation professionals., • Demonstrated curiosity, problem-solving mindset, and commitment to continuous improvement in project delivery., • Strong client service orientation with the ability to build and maintain positive relationships., • Ability to adapt to changing project requirements and anticipate challenges in complex project environments., • Willingness to perform safety-sensitive field work and attend activities at client sites.Work Environment This role operates in a dynamic environment that includes both office-based and field-based work. The position may require up to approximately 5% travel, or more as needed depending on project assignments. You may be assigned to client sites for extended periods, which can include overnight stays or temporary residence in the client’s city. The Project Engineer regularly visits active construction sites and must complete required site safety training and adhere strictly to site safety rules. The work involves exposure to both indoor and outdoor environments, including varying weather conditions. The position is designated as safety-sensitive and involves field work at client sites, which may include construction, process, packaging, manufacturing, research, or other non-administrative settings. Reliable transportation is necessary to travel and commute to client locations and job sites on a daily or routine basis. The work environment emphasizes collaboration, integration of multiple technical disciplines, and an end-to-end project delivery mindset, bringing together design, engineering, procurement, construction management, commissioning, and validation activities to support technically complex facilities. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of San Jose, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $60.00/hr.
