Job Description Primary Purpose: • Managed front office by greeting visitors and checking patients in/out., • Prepare for patient appointments by checking the schedule before appointments., • Review, completes requests, routes to chart, and/or delegate to the appropriate team member all incoming faxes., • Completed the registration process of patients, which included knowledge of insurance payers and insurance verification, • Assist in submitting referrals to specialists as directed by the provider, • Check-in patients upon arrival; confirm correct demographics and insurance and collect copays when applicable, • Check out patients, schedule a follow-up or next visit, and collect payment for cash patients, • Provides support in charge entry, claims denials, and claims held for various reasons., • Responsible for visitor verification and sign-in (non-employees/vendors), • Answer the telephone and assist with any questions, returning phone calls to patients., • Scheduling appointments and keeping those appointments on time., • Keep a clean and calm reception area., • Provide the necessary forms to fill out before patient appointments, verify patient insurance information, and help schedule appointments., • Proficient in processing referrals and prior authorizations., • Escorts Patients to exam rooms., • Obtain appropriate records such as patient vital signs/medical list., • Assists physicians with minor clinical procedures, • Performs EKGs and prepares patient's chart with pertinent medical information as directed by physician., • Ensures that the patient's right to privacy, safety, and confidentiality is maintained, • Schedules diagnostic tests and surgeries as ordered by the physician., • Maintain a safe environment by standards, policies, and safety regulations., • Ensures compliance with infection control polices., • Scanning pertinent patient information into EMR, including patient authorizations, recent labs delivered by patients, etc., • Obtain patient authorization for medical records release (HIPAA Compliance)., • Monitor and review patient schedules for the next day's office appointments., • Identify and resolve minor patient billing complaints., • Assists in ordering, receiving, and stocking of office supplies., • A certified medical assistant who graduated from an accredited medical assistant program and has a license is optional, • Maintain and have a current CPR certificate every 2 years., • Maintain and have a current annual training in Bloodborne pathogens., • At least one year of office experience, preferably in an Internal Medicine of Primary Care office experience preferred., • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, • A high degree of emotional intelligence, compassion, diplomacy, and tact, • Demonstrated flexibility regarding job duties/assignments, • Ability to multi-task and work effectively in a high-stress and fast-moving environment, • Possess a thorough understanding of the importance of confidentiality and non-disclosure according to the general standards set forth by HIPAA.
