How you'll make a difference As the Community Safety Manager, it will be your responsibility to lead and manage the council’s community safety service, which is aimed at keeping our residents and communities safe. You will provide strategic direction and support to the council and partners, and act as the advisor to the Community Safety Partnership Executive Board and Chair of the Community Safety Partnership Steering Group. The budget for the service is circa £2 million, the majority of which is grant funding secured through the Home Office or Avon and Somerset Police and Crime Commissioner to support the work streams identified in the South Gloucestershire Community Safety Partnership Strategic Plan. What you will be doing • Leading the strategic response to community safety, you will formulate plans and implement targets and objectives to ensure the council and partners fulfil strategic objectives, complying with current legislation and national policy frameworks to tackle crime and disorder., • You will lead a team of 11.6 FTE staff, including 4 direct reports, holding varied portfolios and experts in CCTV, community safety, domestic abuse and serious violence., • Acting as the lead officer for the council in Prevent, modern slavery and violence reduction, you will take the role as chair for the South Gloucestershire Prevent Partnership Board., • Collaborating with internal colleagues and partners, you will identify funding opportunities and improvements for system change with a long-term vision of sustainability, representing the council at local, regional, and national forums., • It will be your responsibility to manage a complex budget for the Community Safety team, ensuring resource allocation and the delivery of services to meet the requirements of financial agreements., • You will either hold a degree in a relevant subject (such as criminology or criminal justice), have relevant professional accreditation or the equivalent knowledge, skills and experience in the community safety, crime and disorder field., • It is essential that you have experience of working at a strategic level within a large public sector organisation and demonstrable experience in briefing senior leaders., • We require you to have experience of managing complex, high value budgets including grant funding., • With the ability to work at a strategic level, you will drive performance through partnership working across the portfolio and have expert knowledge in community safety, crime and disorder and the relevant legislation., • You will have experience in assessing threats and risks linked to high profile incidents which can lead to community tensions, alongside evidence of problem-solving techniques and resourcing to manage and de-escalate these., • It is key that you have experience of managing a large team with a wide and varied portfolio.
